If it was a celebrity death match then Eastenders may win by a whisker. If it's down to good acting and scripts, then Corrie by a mile.:celb (23):

View Full Version : Corrie v Eastenders scouserdave 09-28-2006, 09:10 PM If it was a celebrity death match then Eastenders may win by a whisker. If it's down to good acting and scripts, then Corrie by a mile.:celb (23): Kev 09-28-2006, 09:45 PM Don't get me started on Eastenders, it's cack. The acting is so bad, the scripts are poo. Who ever wrote the baby story line for Billy Mitchell's new missus (Honey?) was taking the pish. Plus that actor who is playing that alcoholic dad . Soaps have had their day playing with serious issues. Brookside did it all years ago and was much better than this tripe, even when it was on its last legs. Plus I hate the way they stereotype characters in Eastenders. Corry aint too bad, still tounge in cheek corry. victorialush 09-28-2006, 09:48 PM I havent watched either of these for months.... I am stuck in work with Loose Women and Hollyoaks  Kev 09-28-2006, 09:51 PM I am stuck in work with Loose Women That's no way to talk about your work colleagues :celb (23): victorialush 09-28-2006, 09:53 PM That's no way to talk about your work colleagues :celb (23): lol, so fitting though :D scouserdave 09-28-2006, 10:33 PM I havent watched either of these for months.... I do watch Coronation St. though, started a couple of years ago after downloading it for my sister when she was over here. It must be a great story, I missed 25 yrs. and caught up right away. :) lindylou 09-29-2006, 12:41 PM Don't get me started on Eastenders, it's cack. The acting is so bad, the scripts are poo. Soaps keep doing these 'serious issues' and it's old hat now. I got fed-up with soaps a long time ago. It was when they started putting them on trillions of times in a week. It wasn't too bad in the old days when they were on just twice - easier to keep up with. Now they are on TOO much. You couldn't possibly keep up with all of them. Emmerdale, Corry, Eastenders. It's just too boring keeping up with them. I will dip into them only occassionally, if I have absolutely nothing else to do ! Kev 09-29-2006, 12:53 PM yeah. I go along with all of what you said Kev. There are too many blag award ceremonies that reinforce their fake celeb status' too  as a result of these soaps. How many 'late night', versions have their been of Hollyoaks? Just an excuse for more rudeness and to see someone with their underwear on, a 'on tv audition' for the next lad mag spread. Paul D 09-30-2006, 05:58 PM Soap operas are designed to keep the masses ignorant to the injustices that are carried out by us that are going on every day around the World IMO,it's a conspiracy I tell yer.:noid: Blabber 09-30-2006, 06:10 PM They're both dreadful. Corrie is like no real street in Manchester, and likewise for Eastenders. It is fantasy world, where people living individualist lives, locked in their homes in front of their TVs try to reconnect with this mythical community life that we seldom see replicated in modern day reality. Pure fantasy with barely any realism. The scripts and the acting are s***e, it is just nonsense that goes round and round and round. Brooky was a rare example of a gritty soap opera that tackled real issues. But after a few years it became an embarrassment like all the others. Eastenders has a ridiculous number of hard men gangsters. Corrie has too many young men with disgusting hair cuts. Neither of them even portray real accents. The one good thing about Hollyoaks is that it markets Liverpool in a positive light- occasionally mentioning it as the big city nearby and having scummy mancs on it. Paul D 09-30-2006, 06:12 PM In Corrie they're in the pub every day and the women drink pints and smoke roleys and they say Brookie gave us a bad name and reinforced stereotypes. Waterways 09-30-2006, 06:26 PM Soap operas are designed to keep the masses ignorant to the injustices that are carried out by us that are going on every day around the World IMO,it's a conspiracy I tell yer.:noid: They are also mind numbingly boring. I hate them all. I don't watch them. Occassionaly one is one in the background and I get the "feel" of it. Corrie is always in the pub and happy, as is Emerdale - so I would like to live in those places. If I was a London Eastender I would have the BBC up for charcter assissination. Is the east end that miserable and violent? Do you see anyone smile on the prog? Is there ever a time when people don't screech at each other? I only ever liked Eddie Yates and Ogdens - I would like to live in that house and that street at the time. shytalk 09-30-2006, 06:38 PM Blabber These shows are not documentaries, they are fiction and should be treated as such. I am sure they are not intended to be taken seriously. It is not set in Manchester it is in the fictitious Weatherfield. A lot of people do like them, I am a firm believer in the on/off switch and channel selector. If we all liked the same thing there would only be one channel on TV like it was when I was a kid, boring I can tell you. I used to swich off when muffin the mule came on.:) Kev 09-30-2006, 06:59 PM The one good thing about Hollyoaks is that it markets Liverpool in a positive light- occasionally mentioning it as the big city nearby and having scummy mancs on it. and lets not forget Hollyoaks is almost 100% filmed in Liverpool. The only bits that arn't are the obvious Chester shots. :PDT_Piratz_26: Kev 09-30-2006, 07:01 PM Blabber These shows are not documentaries, they are fiction and should be treated as such. I was in Catherine House, Upper Parly a couple of years and was struck by the resemblance between the Corrie character, Tyrone and this lad:PDT_Aliboronz_24: http://www.liverpoolpictorial.com/tyrone001.jpg http://www.liverpoolpictorial.com/tyrone002.jpg Blabber 09-30-2006, 08:44 PM and lets not forget Hollyoaks is almost 100% filmed in Liverpool. The only bits that arn't are the obvious Chester shots. :PDT_Piratz_26: They film on set in Runcorn as well, so it's all good for the Liverpool City Region. :) Shytalk I know these soap operas are not documentaries and that they are fictional programmes. But some ficitonal TV dramas are realistic, fairly believable, moving, funny, well acted and high quality. I couldn't imagine ever taking one of these soaps seriously, or laughing at any of it. I don't empathise with the characters becuase half the time they aren't remotely believable. Take the token gay bloke from Corrie... Do I need to even comment?? He is so unbelievably camp, in an absurd caricature kind of way that I find it cringeworthy. Is there anything wrong with fictional TV being believable and vaguely realistic? I mean, take the acting. It usually involves the character pulling some stupid face at the end of a scene and kind of pausing. This phenomenon occurs a lot on "The Bill" and it is sooo ****ing crap. The only thing I like about the soaps is the comedy value. i.e. they are funny when they aren't intended to be. I used to like Eastenders when Phil Mitchell squared up to people. It was comedy. I'm not criticising people who watch soaps. My Mum watches them. Maybe it's an age thing. Still, I think they are dreadful and whilst they may suck people in in a TV mind-melding kind of way, if you stay away for a while and then see an episode it seems awful. Rant over. I'm off out to rent Clockwork Orange. Ain't seen it for years. shytalk 09-30-2006, 09:48 PM Blabber, Great choice, a classic, I've got a copy, I havn't watched it in a while, might do soon. curvyk 10-17-2006, 03:12 PM At the moment I ma into corrie, that craig is hot! lindylou 01-16-2007, 04:52 PM Corrie & Eastenders lately !    http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/rubinda/tn_sonia.jpg  DingleBoy 02-19-2007, 11:06 AM Corrie all the way. EastEnders has just become a piss-take of itself. At least Corrie is supposed to be camp fun. Plus it has top notch characters and writing as opposed to dull, annoying stereotypes. And fitter lads.
