Brenda 09-28-2006, 03:07 PM Yes, I must admit its one of my favourite places to sit and the view is brilliant from there,... brilliant pics btw.
snappel 09-28-2006, 03:19 PM Excellent pictures Dave, didn't realise just how good the view is from up there...
Lovely pics :PDT_Piratz_26:
sweetcheeks 09-28-2006, 07:13 PM Great pics makes me long to see Liverpool again miss all of it, London not the same.
Sweetcheeks:) :)
bobbymac 09-28-2006, 08:04 PM Sure changed M8. Great pics.
I remember sitting on the 'Brow' when there wasn't much of a skyline to look at.
scouserdave 09-28-2006, 08:39 PM Thanks for your comments folks.
Hiya Bobby, I can't keep up with recording Liverpool's ever changing skyline. Let's just hope it's not Boom and Bust.
In the boxing gym we did an exercise to run up that!
Urban 09-28-2006, 09:30 PM Not to mention those ladies of the night that knock around that area.
Surely they should be moved on its not fair on ordinary women who are waiting at the bus stop or going the shops.

LOL! Just reminded me of a pic I took of Sebo when we were around there one day.

Speaking of Sebo how the devil is he Dave?
scouserdave 09-28-2006, 11:26 PM Speaking of Sebo how the devil is he Dave?
He's doing very well Dave. I visited Sebo a few days after he got out of hospital. I expected to be greeted at his front door by some oul shawlie, then lead into a darkened room where Tony would beckon me to sit next to his bedside. Instead, Tony opened the door, greeted me and we chatted as if nothing had happened! What a dissapointment.
Seriously though, this guy is amazing and he has some of the coolest scars:eek:
The next time we met was by chance, 5 weeks later at St Lukes bombdy church. I never intended to visit there and neither did he. It was also his first trip out since his op'. Weird or what!

snappel 09-29-2006, 09:02 AM The question mark (like the boats in the church) is to do with the Liverpool Biennial I believe...
A.D.Williams 09-29-2006, 09:45 AM How gay, Dave! LOL!
Gay? As in happy and care free?
I should hope so :PDT_Aliboronz_11: . Lets get back on topic. Everton Brow, isn't it a bit dodgy up there?

Yeah it's dodgey being North Liverpool.
wallasey 09-29-2006, 04:41 PM Gay? As in happy and care free?
Gay has a new meaning now.
If something's Gay, its "crap" more or less.
Eg. The closure of the gap in Lime Street's Gay as you have to go round and back again.
Thats what Gay is on the streets!

That's it Wallasey. I was using the word gay in response to Dave's comments about Sebo's walking stick and needing a haircut. I was actually chuckling and shaking my head at the same time when I read it:) :disgust:
A.D.Williams 09-29-2006, 09:22 PM So gay is the new bad? Strange times we live in.

Alot the kids use it to mean the same, if they don't like something, 'it's gay', unfortunately.
shytalk 09-29-2006, 10:01 PM Being the most politically incorrect person, I have only ever used GAY to mean happy and joyfull. Other uses people have found for GAY I still refer to by the adjectives of years ago. I like the language the way it was and don't accept changes without good reason.:Colorz_Grey_PDT_24:

Hmmm! How did we get here from Everton Brow (I lived in a flat off there for a short while as a teenager - Fox Street). Regarding the labels, the difference is that between achieved and ascribed status - whether one is defined by yourself or by others. A person who engages in homosexual activity, for example, may define themselves as gay whilst others may define them as poofs and ponces - a successful outcome for those concerned is when others have come to refer to you by your achieved status. The alternative strategy is to take ownership of the term that others define you by as with blacks and the word n!gger (no longer seen as acceptable to be used by whites).
Personally I don't like the use of labels at all as the tend to define a person by only one aspect of themselves.

Personally what people do in the privacy of their own homes is no business of mine.
Let's get this topic back on track and no more talk of gayness.
:)

I second that!

You'd be amazed at how times I've been told I'am Gay! To be honest, I thought it was a Northumbrian thing rather than a national slang word (haven't heard it since I moved)
I should ride up there sometime.
It's only up the road from the boxing gym, so it wouldn't take that long to get there.

Yeh, must take a walk around there meself. What was the name of the pub that used to be at the bottom of Everton Brow on the corner of Soho Street?
Maybe one of the Dave's have a picture of it.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
shytalk 09-29-2006, 11:22 PM Was it the Pontack?

I think it may actually have been the Soho Arms. Never mind it was a lot of years ago - but if you're out there somewhere Silvia, I haven't forgotten. :slywink:

scouserdave 09-29-2006, 11:47 PM Was it the Pontack?
The Pontack's a detective agency now. I attended a ceremony there in Feb 2005 to unveil the new plaque (the previous one was stolen!) commemorating the history of Liverpool's Little Italy.
I done a set of pics for The Friends of Liverpool Monuments. Here's a couple of them. Sebo's in one of the pics yet again!

Howie 09-30-2006, 12:35 AM Affordable homes planned as eco-housing scheme gets under way
Sep 20 2006
Daily Post
WORK is well under way by Liverpool builder Rok at phase one of Everton's first eco-housing scheme.
The £5.7m development, Greenbrow, is being built for client Aldbury Housing on an area of disused wasteland along Everton Brow, which once completed, will offer affordable homes ranging from one-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom town houses.
Greenbrow has been designed around a courtyard setting, with landscaped areas and secure parking. Phase one consists of 54 new homes, with a further 102 homes to be created in following phases. The development is set for completion in April 2007, when further construction will begin.
Among its green credentials are the use of timber as a primary material, high levels of insulation, low energy lighting and rainwater harvesting.
Martin Ormston, Rok area leader, said: "This is an important development that will bring quality and affordable housing to the local area.
"Much attention has been paid to detail, with the aim of incorporating long-lasting benefits to both the environment and the community."

lindylou 09-30-2006, 09:22 PM I can walk to Everton park from here - up Breck rd and over the hill. I hardly ever go there tho' .. perhaps at new year to watch the fireworks. :)
Like everything else - you sometimes ignore what's on your doorstep. :)
I can't fail to notice the fantastic view though, I see it every time I'm on the 14c bus going into town - I always look over to the Welsh hills on a clear day. :)

I have only just started taking the odd holiday since the kids have grown up and left home. It is visiting other cities abroad that has prompted me to really look at this city that I have spent nearly all my life in (but taken for granted).
shytalk 09-30-2006, 10:40 PM After I moved abroad and returned for a visit, I realised how much we take for granted.

Yes! I've had the same experiance! Once I was on the bus going along Everton Ridge; the sun was low in the sky as it was getting a little late. We were just drawing level with the Radio City Tower and thne the most amazing thing happened. We were level with the city tower for a split second, and in that split second, the sun was sat ontop of it. It looked like the City Tower was a beacon of light casting warm, bright rays across the city. It was just so amazing for one split second!
Might sound like a load of what do you call it's but it did happen! And it was just an amazing sight to marvel too!

Wow! Wallasey mate, that was lovely:shock:
lindylou 10-01-2006, 02:11 PM There are fantastic views from there. It's amazing how much you can see of the Welsh mountains on a good clear day.
Years ago my cousin lived in St George's Heights (on the hill). He lived on the 19th floor facing towards the river - can you imagine the fantastic view from the 19th floor AND the building already perched in a lofty position. :)
Howie 10-01-2006, 02:18 PM Yeh, let's have more pics on the forum of the city from the side we see it from - from Everton Brow, Low Hill, etc. rather than from the river.
Brenda 10-01-2006, 02:29 PM I used to live where Everton Park is now, and remember being able to see the fair all lit up in New Brighton many years ago.
My brother also lived in St Georges Hts on 17th floor, his views on a clear day were from Speke airport to Giro in Bootle.
When I used to visit him the binoculars came out and you could even see the traffic on the other side of the river.
All gone now of course.
:unibrow:
lindylou 10-01-2006, 05:59 PM He might have known my cousin. :)
Brenda 10-01-2006, 06:19 PM Yes..I wonder.

scouserdave 10-02-2006, 10:14 AM Here's a couple of rare views OF Everton Brow taken from the north. Sadly the big white block of flats in one of the pics has gone. I used to love taking pics from it's roof.

There are great views looking away from the river. ie; from Breck rd there is a smashing view of Parbold Hill, Wigan way - Up Holland areas.
Some days it's a really clear view.
The same views can be seen from the top path (near Anfield rd end) of Stanley Park.
