Liverpool's most famous grindcore* outfit. One of the best.

Shared a guitarist with Birmingham's legendary Napalm Death. Who they be!???

*late eighties, earlier nineties, speed-metal/punk offshoot scene, characterised by low, distorted basslines, and incomprehensible grunted vocals that focus typically on either death, dismemberment, disgusting medical procedures that go wrong, viscera, blood, destruction and nuclear obliteration, or in the case, of the Death, anarchosyndicalist politics. Erm, not exactly pop, is it?

Alright Dave. Reckon I got that one right then.

Okay, my go.

So those Flock of Seagulls haircut offenders: from which song by what band did they get their name?

Not a Liverpool band, as it happens, but, as a clue, the lyrics of a song on their first album rather crudely namechecks Liverpool and also the city's most famous civil engineering project.

matt
09-27-2006, 04:57 PM
That would be from a line in the Stranglers Song "Toiler on the Sea"

One for Kev...where did Pink Floyd get their name from?

Kev
09-27-2006, 05:17 PM

Correctimundo! The Stangler's Liverpool-related lyrics being from their song, "London Lady", which can be found on "Rattis Novegicus", their first long player. They go like this:

Making love to the Mersey tunnel. With a sausage! Have you ever been to Liverpool?

It was Chronic Town which contained the tracks Wolves, Lower; Gardening at Night;Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars); 1,000,000 and Stumble.

My question is a multi-answer heavyweight......

a. who is referred to as the nicest man in rock?
b. name his current band and instrument
c. name his former band and instrument
d. name the person he replaced in that band

My money's on FKoE for this one!! :celb (23):

Netto? Dunno. Is that you Awaaayo?

Hey that's a point. Does anyone know what that awsome song is called from the 3G advert?

It's the one that sounds all retro and guitary and goes...

"La la la la la laaaaa, la la la la la la laaa laaaaa...." Does anybody know?

:D @ Bunny hehehe ..

Squiz, 'another girl another planet' was the only decent tune they ever did ;)

Yeah, everyone says that. It's a standout tune, I'll admit, Future King of Eastbourne.

They had other decent ones tho' - the Beast, Lovers of Today. Also,
the OTT miserablism of No Peace for the Wicked and Why don't You Kill Yourself? make me smile. That semi-ironic, partly tongue in cheek wallowing in emotional trauma must have had an influence on Morrisey.

I reckon you can hear the Only Ones' influence in Suede. Don't Look Back into the Sun by the Libertines is basically a rerun of Another Girl. No one bought their records (even their most famous song tanked in the charts) but they were pretty influential on other bands.

FKoE
10-07-2006, 10:46 PM
'Another Planet' was a big hit with the early punks.. but other than that tune, nothing else stood out.. But then how could they ever top that guitar riff ..

"Future King of Eastbourne" :D

Let restart the thread.
Answer the question, set the next question.

What links Setting Sons, Sound Effects, Stanley Road?

matt
10-13-2006, 01:52 PM
That would be Paul Weller: Sound

Affects and Setting Sons are both albums by The Jam while Stanley Road was released by Weller as a solo artist.

Try this:

and thats not to say that theres anything wrong with being a cow anyway"

Not too old, Its from the 80's but about the 70's. By a Welsh band who may not be everyones taste but in my opinion underated. ....other words include ' We first met in Matthew street...................a sign stands over the door, it says four lads who shook the world.....................................Mersey lights shine in the distance, same as they did for us then...'

Hawkwind! Due to most of the audience for certain reasons being unable to move from their seats after the show!!!!!!!!! Went to see them in 89 at the Royal couirt and I have never seen so many people have to be carried out of a concert by the bouncers and st Johns ambulance. Hawkwind coinciding with the emergance of acid house was a mad mix.

john
12-03-2006, 06:34 PM
You would have to be in that state to watch them:)

The biggest concert seen in Liverpool was in front of 125,000 people at Aintree Racecourse in 1988, who performed?
