The Little Fat Man (With The Pug-Nosed Face) ~ (Bowie/Gervais/Merchant)
Little fat man who sold his soul,
Little fat man who sold his dream...
Pathetic little fat man,
No one's bloody laughing,
The clown that no one laugh's at,
They all just wish he'd die.
He's so depressed at being hated,
Fatso takes his own life,
He blows his stupid brains out,
But the **** would probably miss.
He sold his soul for a shot at fame,
Catchphrase and wig and the jokes are lame,
He's got no style, he's got no grace,
He's banal and facile, he's a fat waste of space
See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
See his pug-nosed face...Pug, pug, pug, pug,
The little fat man with the pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug,
Little fat man, pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug,
He's a little fat pug-nosed face, Pug, pug, pug, pug.

re Winston Rodney - as quoted from my Burning Spear album;
... his voice has a hollowness - a sepulchral echo - the music of the Spear is definately not get-down-boogie-all-night-party nonsense. Rather, it is music that makes the body aware of it's natural breathing, both psychic and physical.

UK B.M.D - North Weezie
Ahh UK Grime - The best thing to happen to music in the past 10 years easy.
Warning though - you will probably hate it! So let me explain myself:
I've always listened to Hip Hop but the 'commercial' hip hop for the last few years as I'm sure you all know has been absolute balls. I used to rely on the 'underground' hip hop but nothing from there ever excites me anymore. So as far as I'm concerned hip hop has pretty much been dead since the turn of the millenium. I listen to other stuff aswell like some Indy and what not but there's no other genre as origonal as Grime.
Such a breath of fresh air!
Give you're opinions, I'm interested to see what people who haven't heard any Grime yet think about it. I'm expecting 'just shouting', 'noise - not music' etc but I shouldn't assume.

Hi Lindylou, I have nice collection of reggae, I do like the 70s/80s Roots, I like Misty in Roots, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, early Aswad, Toots, LKJ, Black Uhuru. I also have Inner Circle, Issacs, Cliff, The Mighty Diamonds and very early reggae/ska/Dub
The new stuff I like Daimian Marley, went to see him in Manchester Brilliant
My collection also has lots of weird and wonderful, from the Killers, Faithless, Underworld, The Clash, The Redskins, Asian Dub Foundation to music from Africa and Turkey to lots of LIverpool bands FGTH, Wah, Lotus Eaters.

GRIME... a cross breed between 90's breakbeats and jungle and noughties d+b and 4 step... not that innovative aye ? :D

Don't know much about glitch, I'll look into it and download a bit later. But I think grime is innovative in that theres nothing really like it out there and the artists in the genre are always pushing and creating new sub-genres. Its not innovative in that it came from nowhere and was totally new, I think uk garage came from what you said, and grime has evolved from that. Now theres tons and tons of similar genres which have spawned from grime like tropical, dubstep etc. I think you would probably find that the people behind these scenes were the same people behind grime/garage/dubstep/d+b at some time.
Plus it all came from the UK and the majority of americans hate it - all the more reason to love it :snf (41):

I was a dedicated collector from the late 60's up until 90's.
The first ska record I ever heard was Guns Of Navrone .. I was about 13 then. That sound hit me like a bolt of lightening - (lightening drop !! ha,ha) -
I was hooked to the sound from then on, but I didn't get to learn much more until I was 15 or 16 when I was introduced to Reggae music. I started collecting the Tighten Up albums and suchlike.
When I started going to clubs playing black music I branched out into serious collecting (non-commercial). Over the years I had approx 1000 records on vinyl and tapes, including some obscure stuff - imports.
I had a major sort out last year !
There are too many favourites to list, the problem is where to start and where to stop !! :)
Classic golden oldies;
Owen Gray, John Holt & The Paragons, Heptones, Alton Ellis, Ken Booth, Laurel Aitken,Don Drummond, Jimmy Cliff, Kingstonians,Pioneers, Melodians, Scratch The Upsetter (Lee Perry) .. and so on .... !
I like The Cool Ruler Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown (I saw him live)
Mighty Diamonds, Beres Hammond, just to mention a few.
I've got so many fave records ;
Picture On My wall - Naturalites.
Dennis Brown - all his stuff.
Gregory - ditto
Jimmy Cliff - .. ..
Culture - Two Sevens Clash. Crack in New York. Worried. Gather Round.
Peter Tosh - Are we A Warrior. (brilliant !). African. In My Song.
Toots - I Will Never Grow Old.
Joseph Cotton - Can We Make Love Tonight.
Bob - Soul Rebel. Three Little Birds. Simmer Down ( I love this) :)
.... and one of my very favourites, Cottage In Negril by Tyrone Taylor. :)
.... sorry to be a Reggae bore ! :o I'll shut up now :D
ps, John - I like LKJ too, and Inner Circle. (was never keen on Uhuru - sorry )
I have also got two sevens clash, what a classic.

If you go down to Willow Farm,
to look for butterflies, flutterbyes,
gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,
like the focks on the rocks,
and the musical box.
Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and
good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.
There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag,
he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a
drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick
was an egg, and the egg was a bird
Hadn't you heard?
Yes, we're happy as fish,
and gorgeous as geese,
and wonderfully clean in the morning.
We've got everything, we're growing everything,
We've got some in
We've got
some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone,
you name them all,
We've had them here,
And the real
stars are still to appear.

So Here We Are by Bloc Party
I caught a glimpse, but its been forgotten
So here we
are again
I made a vow, to carry you home... home
I really tried to do what you wanted
It all went wrong again
I made a
vow, to carry you home
If you fall sick, if you pass out
I figured it out, I can see again
Plans by Bloc Party
Wake
up dreamer
It's happening without you
Cut your hair and shave your beard
You squandered your chances
I'll give you a
thousand pounds
To show me how you do it
Stop being so laissez-faire
We're all scared of the future
Been training vipers
to come for you
In your dreams to release you
Been training vipers to come for you
In your sleep
And the ravens are leaving
the tower
And the ravens are leaving the tower
Make your peace
I've got a taste for blood
Leave the weak, leave the
young
I've got a taste for blood
I'm walking out without you
You will kill or be killed
It's about progress
I've
got a taste for blood
Wake up sleepyhead
It's happening without you
Such a nice guy
You tell me everything
twice
Whipcrack speed jump
We will run backwards
Stop being so laissez-faire
We're all scared of the future

Classic album!
Floggin' Molly : The sun never shines
I saw her there from afar
Her hair grey charcoal
Takes a drag from her tar
I kissed her a smile
But her blood red shot eye
Said the sun never shines on closed doors
It's been eight long years since I saw
The woman who's laboured
Since the day I was born
These wrinkles now face
To that cold dark damp place
Where the sun never shines on closed doors
She said the sun never shines on closed doors
I open to find only hurricanes blow
Take me away back to the green fields of May
Because the sun never shines on closed doors
Death comes like a thief in the night
To steal while you sleep
The soul's flickering light
Well maybe it's then
She said, I'll see you again
Because the sun never shines on closed doors
She said the sun never shines on closed doors
I open to find only hurricanes blow
Take me away back to the green fields of May
Because the sun never shines on closed doors
And we all go the same way home
Yeah we all go the same way home

phill 12-23-2006, 11:11 AM Today I passed you on the street
And my heart fell at your feet
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you
Someone else was by your side
And he looked so satisfied
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you
A picture from the past came slowly stealing
As I brushed your arm and walked so close to you
And suddenly I got that old time feeling
I can't help if I'm still in love with you
It's hard to know anothers lips will kiss you
And hold you just the way I used to do
Heaven only knows how much I miss you
I can't help if I'm still in love with you.
They don't write words like that anymore, that was a huge hit long ago and the guy who wrote it and sang it died when he was only 29 years old ... He was a prolific song writer and a great favourite with the youth of Liverpool years ago.

ChrisGeorge 12-31-2006, 04:03 AM Hi all
My wife bought me, for Xmas, Sir Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum which I think is great - but then I like classical music as well as the Beatles, so I realise it may not be to everyone's taste.
Donna also got me Elton John's The Captain and the Kid and Elton John Live, which includes selections from The Captain and the Kid plus his oldies "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word" -- not as impressed with that, the new stuff is okay but not as good as the album the new material is in tribute to, The Captain and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, and Elton and Bernie seem to be trying to hard to recapture their old music. The live album is good and worth listening to, but Elton's sounds disappointingly hoarse.
I had got for Xmas from Donna last year, George Harrison's last CD, Brainwashed, and have enjoyed it so much, plus after seeing "We Was Fab" on You-Tube, I decided to splurge on a number of his albums on CD, All Things Must Pass, the 2000 remix (which I had previously had on L.P. when it first came out in 1970) plus Cloud Nine and Dark Horse, on my way to collecting all things Harrison. :celb (23):
Great stuff, George. R.I.P.

This is defo the work of a paedo,it was on the radio today,a classic 60's? song that's a wee bit disturbing if you ask me.
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl, you're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough to give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....
Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it is wrong to be alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here before I have the time to change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind ....

Live Review
When Worlds Collide: A Very Special Evning Of Frank Zappa Music
by Paul Donnelly
Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. 25th February 2001.
The present day composer refuses to die according to Edgard Varese, a man with legendary eyebrows. He also influenced the guy whose music an eager bunch of resurrectionists revived in the Paul McCartney Auditorium. The Liverpool based band The Muffin Men and the classical Ensemble 10:10 came together to re-create some of the compositions Zappa produced in his thirty-odd creative years of genre-hopping and spanning. Anyone hoping for songs about guys with spindles up their butts, dental floss or hungry freaks daddy will have been disappointed but, judging by the audience’s enthusiasm and good-humour, disappointment wasn’t even in the auditorium. And I only heard one guy shout about not eating yellow snow.
The Muffin Men, a six piece, kicked off with selections mostly from 1969/70 material: "Chunga’s Revenge", "Peaches en Regalia" and "Son Of Mr Green Genes", were all given a dusting off, reminding anyone who’d forgotten just how melodic a composer Zappa could be. Guitarist, Carl Bowry, turned in what was to be one of many exciting, hair-raising solos, while Andy Frizell and Martin Smith performed the horn parts exceptionally. Bassist, Roddie Gilliard, humbly announced that the ‘real musicians’ would be on next. No need for such modesty. The Muffin Men were more than just a support band. They set the celebratory tone of the evening.
Ensemble 10:10, conducted by Carl Rundell, celebrated some of Zappa’s influences, specifically Stravinsky and Varese. It was also, I think, a tribute to the way Zappa opened listeners’ ears to other musics. The audience, who had been visibly rocking moments earlier, were equally enthusiastic about Nicholas Cox’s supremely animated solo rendition of Stravinsky’s "Three Pieces For Clarinet". The same must be said of Rachel Lyons’ superb performance of the notoriously difficult "Density 21.5", Varese’s piece for solo flute. But it wasn’t all solos. The Ensemble joined forces for Varese’s spiky "Octandre", which was met with less than rapture when it was first performed in public. However, this audience loved it! The Ensemble closed with an arrangement of "Alien Orifice", one that was every bit as good as my favourite version on Make A Jazz Noise Here. It is always interesting to hear other arrangements of Zappa’s work since he kept on revisiting and perfecting versions of many of his pieces. I think he would have approved of Ensemble 10:10.
After the interval both sets of musicians combined and produced some of the highlights of the evening. They were also joined on vibes and percussion by Ian Gardiner, whose role as M.C. had kept the audience informed and amused between tunes. What they called "The Big Medley" included my personal favourite combination of tunes : "Let’s Make The Water Turn Black", "Harry You’re A Beast", "Oh No!" and "Orange County Lumber Truck". A selection guaranteed to make you bounce in your seat, which is what much of the auditorium was doing. Both bands were so obviously at home together it isn’t fair to single anyone out but I’m going to do it anyway - Muffin guitarist Carl Bowry had us hanging from the rafters in sheer ecstasy. At times he sounded like Zappa but most of the time he was completely himself, unreeling long fluid lines and sharp-edged runs. Air sculpture, in Zappa’s words. And it was great to see the obvious joy and delight on the faces of members of Ensemble 10:10 as he took off on his extended, but never self-indulgent flights. And I have to mention trumpet/flugelhorn Muffin Man, Martin Smith, who looked like a cross between Alexei Sayle and Stan Laurel. He bounced and danced around the stage and still had the breath to whip out excellent solos and join in the intricate ensemble work.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did! The collective power of all sixteen players took on "King Kong". It was a truly wonderful sound as they unfolded the theme and breathed fresh life into an old favourite. They even mutated it into the reggae-tinged version you can hear on Make A Jazz Noise Here and threw in a bit of "Sunshine Of Your Love", a nod towards that other superb live album, The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life.
When that was all over, musicians embraced, applauded each other and generally radiated joy. The audience went berserk and gave them a standing ovation until they got an encore. It was sheer gravy, to borrow the words of Raymond Carver. Superlatives fail me. These musicians all put body and soul into the night and the music, their obvious love and respect for Zappa’s work joined with that of the audience. Long may they continue to deliver this memorable body of work to the world.

I'm listening to Pink Floyd's Animals album, recorded live at Aussie Floyd's Liverpool Summer Pops 2005. I think I've only listened to the original album once or twice, it's nowhere near as good without the Liverpool audience (I was there) :PDT11
