on the subject of comedy ... who is this Russell Brand ?

I've heard his name mentioned quite a lot recently but didn't know who he is.
I saw something today about him being a stand-up comedian - well, I must have missed something here. I've not seen or heard him.

Russell Brand came to my attention on Channel 4 during Big Brother, he's known to have had is drug problems and has dated many famous women. He's like a modern day Cassanova. He is funny

yes, I'd been hearing bits of scandal about this guy but I didn't know who he was. I didn't know if he was an actor or in a group or something.
I didn't watch Big Brother - was in the house ?

I like stand-up comedy so it's a wonder I havn't seen him before.

I'll probably see him all the time now ! :)
