Froch is over confident.

Froch knows he couldn't be fighting for a world title now like he says. Not long ago he said he didn't have the time to win the British title outright.

Froch probably has nightmares thinking of this man.

The way he let Rooney hold his Belt though!

I

ain't seen Dodson fight but he looks good on gym videos.

Also hear good things about him in the ring too and in 2004 when he held the belt, he would

of been favoured to beat Froch.

I don't like Froch that much though, his defence is terrible and he mostly goes just for sparking fighters out and

has been troubled by fighters who are not considered as good as Dodson.

Tony will definately come to fight though and most fans think he has a

chance.

Froch's nothing special, he won't go beyond European Level even if he won, he has the nerve to call out Calzaghe already and his promotor

hypes him up which he mostly is.

Credit to him for fighting Dodson whos probably going to be the best on his list unless you count Brian Magee who

ducked some guy Dodson beat.

Dodson posts on Boxrec too!:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

First Derry Matthews beats a hyped up Manc, now Dodson will beat that mouthy

******* Froch who is smoking something to think he can call out Calzaghe! Hopefully Speke's Michael Jone will be able to regain the British Light Middle

belt too.

Shame he had to give it up in 2004 though on injuries. Says he was once a poster boy for the local Garston Community too.

Once a poster-boy for the local Garston community, Dodson now walked the streets unnoticed. The days of being addressed by anonymous faces as

“champ” were long gone.

Was there posters or anything about him in Garston back around 2004?

Heads up report: Froch vs. Dodson

http://www.hennessysports.com/upload/froch_dodson600.jpg

Photo courtesy of Nottingham Evening Post.

18 months after first being scheduled to clash, British super middleweight champion Carl Froch and former title-holder Tony Dodson finally came face-to-face yesterday.

The pair both appeared in a mock courtroom at the ‘NCCL Galleries of Justice’ museum in Nottingham ahead of their clash on the Hennessy Sports ‘Outright Promotion’ in the champion’s hometown on November 24th

Sky Sports 1 will cover live from the Nottingham Arena.

Froch arrived first, looking relaxed.

Dodson was slightly late, but only down to heavy traffic.

There were never any concerns that he would put in a no-show, despite having previously withdrawn from three fights against Froch through injury, initially when he was champion.

The Liverpudlian badly wants his title back. He pleaded guilty to that charge without hesitation - then the verbal exchanges began.

“Carl said he wanted to see me in the flesh, that he wanted to see how I reacted to him – well here I am,” opened Dodson. “You can see I’m not scared.”

“I think you are,” countered Froch. “I can see it in your eyes. I can see the fear. Forget all your talk, just promise me one thing: that you will be there on the 24th.”

Dodson replied: “I’ll be there, you have my word on it.”

The fighters shook hands.

A discussion about Dodson’s pullouts followed, with him adding:

“I know why you all have doubts. I understand it, but there was a valid reason each time. This fight means everything to me. I’m getting that British Title back. You keep it for a couple more weeks, but then I’m getting it back.”

Froch was also given a father’s assurance that the withdrawals were genuine by Eric Dodson, who also helps train his son.

“I can accept that,” said the unbeaten Froch. “I will take you on your word.”

Normal hostilities were resumed once the pair went head-to-head for the cameras. Whilst there were a couple of pushes, the exchanges were mostly verbal.

“Your in deep water,” Froch promised Dodson. “That’s my title and I’m winning it outright. It’s staying on my mantelpiece. I’m the champion and you can’t do anything about that. You’re getting knocked out.

“Your in over your head. I know your form. I’ve seen you lose. I have seen you fold in front of me. Your weak, I’m strong.”

“That was when I was a boy,” replied Dodson. “That was different then. I’m a man now. You’re in with a man. You’re the one who’s in trouble.

“I can put people to sleep with one shot. You don’t hit hard enough to hurt me. I can’t wait for the 24th, I really can’t wait.”

Carl Froch attempts to win his Lonsdale Belt Outright on November 24th at the Nottingham Arena. Tickets priced £25, £30, £60 and £80 are on sale from the Arena Box Office on 0870 121 0123. For more information, please visit www.HennessySports.com.

Looks like Dodson has a size advantage here so Froch can't jut try to walk through him like he does with other fighters.

A lot seem to hate Froch's mouth.

Froch couldn't even put Matthew Barney to sleep and he basically gave Froch the win by running.

Not long till hopefully the British title is back in Garston.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Tony was stopped by a bodyshot in the 3rd otherwise he did himself proud and could of well pulled it off, but Froch got a heavy bodyshot in.

I nearly thought Tony was going to outwork Froch like he started off and Tony's high guard did well to catch Froch's shots, except when Tony got caught to the body.

Tony did well while it lasted, it would of been much tougher for Froch but he got caught .

Tony will defiantely be able to win the British title back when Froch Vacates though as he's going for the Euro title or a world eliminator. Domestically Tony will beat any of them except Froch so he'll definitely get his British title back.

Domestically and European wise Froch will do well, on the world scene he'll fail, his styles way too slow for the likes of Calzaghe or Kessler and his guard is terrbie.

He's not a classy guy either so much, before the fight started, while the announcer was talking Froch went right upto to Tony and shoulder barged him and ref got Froch to go back to his corner. At least he raised Dodson's hand as respect in the end, but Froch can be a tit.

Dodson's only 26 though so he has time to win the British and Commonwealth titles and he's active enough to get either one of them next year. It's not out of the question that he could win the European title one day either.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

As for the pub, I went to the Parkway in Garston near the South Parkway where loads of Dodson fans including me watched the fight on the big screen they have there. The Atmosphere was great and they well cheered there local hero on.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Shea Neary to now train Tony!

I’ll take Dodson back to the top

Mar 1 2007

by Nick Peet, Liverpool Echo

‘THE Shamrock Express’ Shea Neary is back.

But when the former world champion steps back inside the ropes later this month it will be in his new capacity as a trainer rather than a fighter.

Neary has joined forces with former British super-middleweight champion Tony Dodson, and the pair have set their sights high for the future.

“We’ve set our sights on not only winning back the Lonsdale Belt, but winning it outright with three defences also,” he said. “Tony has bags of talent and potential, plus he’s still young enough to come back and dominate the division.”

Now 38, Neary was the darling of British boxing back in the late nineties when he was the most popular headliner of ITV’s fight coverage.

His wars with Darryl Tyson, Naas Scheepers, Juan Carlos Villarreal and, who could forget, Andy Holligan set him apart as the most popular Scouse boxer of a generation.

But now it seems the former WBU light-welterweight champ has a burning desire to succeed in the ring once again, and he’s set his sights on turning around Dodson flagging pro career.

Neary, who is based out of his own gym – aptly named Shamrock’s – in Old Swan, revealed: “It was an easy decision to make to work with Tony. He was in the gym as a nine year old at the Golden Gloves when I was amateur and I’ve been friends with both him and his family since.

“We have high hopes for the future and I am really enjoying working with him.

“We wouldn’t have taken him on if we didn’t think we could improve him and right now that’s what we are working on, making him a better fighter.”

Dodson, who plans to return on a Matchroom show in London on March 30, says he couldn’t be happier after linking up with his new corner team – both Neary and veteran trainer George Schofield.

He said: “I’ve been working with Shea a couple of weeks now and it’s terrifying. He’s pushing me more than I have ever been pushed before. He’s not messing around.

“The first day he sat me down and said, ‘right the losing stops here, we never lose again’, and that’s the attitude that is driving us both.

“He’s completely hands on. He’s running, jumping and sparring with me and, let me tell you, he’s fit and strong enough now to come back himself – and he’d probably win the British title too!

“I also have the added bonus of having George back in my corner, so I have come full circle really. He was my first amateur coach and my first professional trainer and I respect him a lot.

“Now I just want to keep my head down, listen to the corner and do what I am being told to do – win!”

Neary added: “Tony has the tools and the pedigree to be champion again and I am sure we can make that happen.”

And of Dodson’s most recent loss, a stoppage defeat to current British champ Carl Froch, Neary said: “That was a shot that no fighter would have come back from.

“There’s half a dozen types of body shots but that one, a liver shot, paralyses a fighter. I got hit by the same type of thing against Micky Ward all those years ago and there’s little you can do.”

Shamrock’s has become a beehive for south Liverpool pros, with super-bantam champ Gary Davies, Croxteth prospect John Donnelly and Kensington banger Lee Siner all working out there.
