View Full Version : Stanley Park
Urban 09-08-2006, 07:33 PM It is not right that LFC should be allowed to tear up a listed Victorian park in a rundown area in order to build a new stadium.
This park has been neglected for years, the palm house, lake and gardens look tatty.
How can you call this regeneration/ If Liverpool want a new stadium there are plenty of other places for it.
Quite right but the plans for Anfield include the full restoration of the park, back to its former glory.

Concreting over half of the park is a strange way of restoring it.
Lets see when the renders are released which should be very shortly.

THE long-awaited restoration of Liverpool’s historic Stanley Park will begin next week. Read (http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2007/11/08/14m-stanley-park-works-start-next-week-100252-20080072/)
The boards are going up around the palm house right now.
I've not had a chance to have a look round there yet.Any idea what they're up to at this stage?

I'm not sure if I can see why they've cut so many trees down. Especially the ones in the palm house site.

Could it be because they're too old?
Liverpool's parks are between 100 - 150 years old.
Scouseinmanc 04-08-2008, 01:55 PM They have done exactly the same in Sefton Park.
My Pa told me that they've made a right mess of the place...

When does a tree become too old?
When does a tree become too old?
Never, a typical tree (sycamore, oak, beech etc) can live for up to 1000 years. I suppose their reasoning for the felling is unsafe trees and the long term look of the park.
I still think they have cut down too many. Mature trees give parks their character, simply planting new ones doesn't have the same effect.
A real shame:sad:
naked lilac 04-08-2008, 07:15 PM Gregs Dad. posted a picture of a huge building.."The Conservation Bldging.." there in Liverpool...
It would seem to me, that this would be a great place to go to tell the councils about concerns in the Parks, etc...
Not sure how this works there, but, maybe if you all have a "Meetup" this would be a great place to stop and put in a few names as petitioning what your wishes are..????
It is sad to learn they make a mess out of Sefton Park, and then don't redo it as quickly as they demolish things? Just not right.. I heard local citizens went out and helped too in relocating the critters, (in concern for conservation)?
Maybe when the weather clears up a bit.. Spring and new seedlings, etc.. will thrive? As for trees being too old.. Well, sometimes its due to rot from pests. People again.. have nothing better to do , but complain about a tree that has a bruise etc. in it... If trees could talk..just imagine what they could tell us about survival:PDT_Aliboronz_11: Hope the Conservation Society comes to the rescue to perserve your trees and loveliness that makes it worth a day out there... aloha

Hi Lilac
the conservation building is used to renovate and restore old artifacts like statues and such, and also holds small exhibitions now and then
disco 04-08-2008, 08:53 PM The palm house at Stanley park has been taken down and sent away to be refurbished, and should be back in a year or two in all its glory
I think the palm house would need to be dismantled first to repair and clean the cast iron work. Would'nt it be a good idea to site it somewhere in the City Centre or Pierhead so that everyone could enjoy Liverpool's botanic collection.
Cheers samp.
A SELECTION of glass bottles thought to date back to the 1890s, some embossed with an image of Stephenson’s Rocket, have been found as builders dismantle the Gladstone Pavilion, in Stanley Park.
