Over to you, Paul D.

I know the feeling I still think we'll struggle to score goals even though we now have Andy Johnson,I always get the impression if the other team scores just one goal we're probably going to get a draw at best, even when we dominate a team we rarely hammer them and very often lose/draw so I predict a 10th place finish now please go and prove me wrong.:disgust:

Blackpool 'loud mouth' ready for Sky battle
SOME people are on the pitch ... they think it's all over ... it is now!
Kenneth Wolstenholme's 1966 World Cup final line is as famous as Blackpool rock and the resort's celebrated tower.
But one entertainer has the chance to match it when he appears before thousands as the Evertonian pundit on Sky Sports' Fan Zone this Sunday.
Self-confessed loud mouth Micky Horton will take the mic to be the fan commentator for the Toffees' Premiership clash with Newcastle at 4pm.
And the confident 33-year-old father of four from Ferguson Road, Blackpool, reckons he faces a tougher crowd in his job every day.
Micky, who faces a 100-strong audience every day of the
season while working as an
entertainer in South Pier's Laughing Donkey bar, can't wait for his starring role.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to it.
"I've seen Fan Zone before when I've watched games on Sky.
"Some of them get quite irate but I should be OK, I've got a couple of martial arts lessons booked before I go down there."
Micky is to be flown down to Sky's studios in Middlesex where he will pit his voice against a Geordie counterpart in a bout of verbal jousting while the match unfolds.
He added: "I'm usually working in front of an audience of about 100 but this goes out to thousands of people around the country. There are a few jitters.
"But I've done some TV work before so I think I'll be all right.
"Me being a Scouser up against a screaming lunatic Geordie, I think you might need subtitles!"
Lifelong-Everton fan Micky said he wasn't worried the passions could spill over on the day as he was used to watching his language on a day-to-day basis.
He added: "We've got a swear jar at work and it's empty. You have to be able to control yourself when you work in a family environment.
"I'm sure I can refrain from the obscenities – I'm just going to be very loud!
"I still can't get the smile off my face since we beat Liverpool 3-0 but we haven't a great record at Newcastle. Despite that, I reckon we'll win 2-1."
Micky will be cheered on at home by daughter Molly, 10, Patrick, eight, Mikey, seven and one-year-old Louie – all devoted Evertonians themselves.
And Micky reckons he will be well worth watching – despite his hero Andy Gray commentating on the other channel.
"Andy Gray was my hero when I was growing up but I reckon my wit, humour and passion for football will be worth tuning in for," joked Micky.
"Molly has been telling all her school friends her dad is going to be on telly but they don't believe her.
"But if we get a last-minute winner, you'll probably be able to hear me back in Blackpool."

Gregg gives up stake in Everton

Gregg originally paid £7.2m for his stake in the club
Everton director Paul Gregg has sold his 23% stake in

the club to BCR Sports, marking the end of a power struggle with chairman Bill Kenwright.
Gregg and Kenwright formed True Blue Holdings to run the club

but fell out in July 2004.

Gregg and his wife Anita have resigned from the board.

Everton have not revealed who is behind BCR Sports, but BBC

Sport understands that it is Robert Earl, founder of the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain.

The English-born businessman, who lives in Florida, has

done a deal with the Greggs that values the Goodison Park club at between £80m and £100m.

But the Press Association, quoting sources at Goodison

Park, report that Earl will not be providing extra funds for David Moyes to use in the transfer market.

Nor is his involvement linked to the club's

search for a new stadium.

Rather it is reported that Earl came on board to help his friend Kenwright oust Gregg.

The feud between Gregg and

Kenwright over the future of the club erupted in the summer of 2004.

Gregg had wanted to take control of the club and called on Kenwright to resign.

Since then, an uneasy truce has existed with Kenwright and fellow director John Woods, who between them owned over 50% of the shares, always able to

outvote Gregg on the board.

Gregg made his fortune with Apollo Leisure, which he built up into the country's biggest theatre owners before selling

the company for £129m in 1999.

He was introduced to the club by Kenwright - the pair had originally planned to build a new stadium and entertainment

arena on the Mersey river front but the scheme collapsed.

I'm really surprised at the gates teams, other than Manchester United and Chelsea, garner. Anyone who know's anything about football, and even those who know nothing about the sport, could have predicted either Manchester United or Chelsea would win the Premiership title. The EPL is, IMHO, one team better than the SPL, were Glasgow Celtic will take the honours. At least in England it will be between Manchester United and Chelsea. So far the Premiership has proved almost a monopoly for Manchester United. And what team, other than Chelsea, can compete with the money at thier disposal? Apart from Arsenal, how many teams have any chance, realisticly, of competing with the top two?

I hear people talking about qualifying for a place in European competition, which means finishing fourth and lower, behind the top three. Since when has finishing fourth become equated with success?

ChrisGeorge
11-11-2006, 08:07 PM
Hi Sloyne

Obviously finishing second, third, or fourth, anything other than first, is not "success" in the way that it used to be understood. But today in terms of financial success, and even to keep the fans happy, it means a lot in terms of the prospect of top European football and the consequent moolah. In other words, I think the criteria for success have been revised to meet the pragmatic realities of today's game compared to how it used to be played.

All my best

Chris

Newcastle in the 1990s were a constant competitor for the title - but never managed quite to win it. The current setup mean "consistency" gets rewarded. Liverpool won the Champions league and never even won the domestic title the year before.

The team that wins the title the next year usually does not, that is why many regarded the EUFA Cup as the proper European cup, as the one of the ream that qualified the year before usually won the domestic title. In 1985 Everton met Bayern Munich in the European Cup Winners Cup. Both were running away with the home titles - this tie was regarded that year as the strongest and best in Europe, which wasn't in the European Cup.

Just beat West Ham 2-0 with Osman and James Vaughn getting on the scoresheet.:DWorst team I've seen so far this season. The stats tell it all. 19 corners to 8, 21 to 7 shots on goal. West Ham had 12 corners to Everton's 3, in the first half hour. Two well taken goals mind you and with talent like Vaughn and Anichebe in the wings, the future can't be as bad as the recent past.

I have little confidence in this manager. He played Englands striker, Rooney, for 10 and 20 minutes a game while Ericson played him for 90 minutes and he was scoring goals for England. He is now nursing Anichebe, one of the most talented, and robust, youngsters in the Premiership by playing him like he played Rooney, 10 and 20 minutes a game. Beattie, McFadden, Wier, Naysmith, Carsley, Stubbs, Davis and Wright are all players that are either passed thier sell by date or just don't have what it takes in the Premiership. Beattie, Davis and Wright are total rubbish. Carsley, Stubbs, Wier and naysmith have all given good service to Everton but need replacing. Surely James Beattie is second only to Richard Wright as a disaster buy with Simon Davis close to them.

He has been there over 5 years. OK a rookie so give him a 3 years learning curve. After 5 years it is still the same - no change. He reminds me of Johnny Carey. A manger that looked like he would do something but never did - so he was replaced and they won the title.

The problem will stay until revenues increase via new stadium. The new stadium put Man City in the top 20 richest clubs in Europe. For 10 years EFC have been moving home but never do. They haven't even got a firm site yet, and will still remain at the wooden wonder for many years to come. So mid table at best and many seasons looking over the should at the drop - until it inevitably comes.
