I love this type of event but have always associated them with London etc. The Graffiti art is a big draw for me and now its at Otterspool, I may well take a trip along, as long as they dont wreck a lovely park.

What a fantastic afternoon at the HUB Festival at Otterspool, Liverpool. A mix of cultures and musical tastes (Hip Hop, Rock etc) combining to create a unique experience for people young and old.

Very accessable this year due to its location. Here are few pics and vids.

Great pictures, love the dancers video and Grandmaster track, what was that pile of ***t on the rawk stage looks like they were playing to themselves?

I can appreciate all forms/styles of music and up for giving people a go but some just take the biscuit and don't think its anything to do with my age:)

I got a few. Its a tricky place to shoot as you have the barricades in the way and its just not possible to get the really cool shots that you see the other photographers getting.

BLISTERING temperatures brought out record crowds to the UK's biggest free urban culture festival, on Liverpool's waterfront yesterday.

Around 12,000 visitors - 4,000 more than last year - soaked up the atmosphere and the sun, at the cutting-edge Hub 2006 festival for alternative culture.

Held for the first time at Otterspool prom, it attracted the best skaters and BMXers from across Europe.

While they battled to win £4,000 in an open competition, graffiti artists sprayed away on specially built walls, and up and coming bands provided music to keep visitors entertained.

The most popular event proved to be the breakdancing contest, held at the festival for the first time, which was watched by around 4,000 people.

The festival site took a week to set up and included two music stages, a breakdancing stage and a BMX dirt jump.

Skaters also showed their skills on street furniture designed by Liverpool's former World Skate Champion, Neil Danns.

Organisers said the turnout exceeded expectations, thanks to the new location and the sunny weather.

Jason Harborow, chief executive of Liverpool Culture Company, said: "This year has been a fantastic success with thousands of visitors attending the festival over the course of the weekend.

"This has been the first year Hub has been based at Otterspool, having outgrown its previous home at the Pier Head.

"The new site provides us with the opportunity to continue developing the festival and people can look forward to an even bigger and better event next year."

Meanwhile, the hot weather continued to draw sunseekers to Merseyside beaches and parks throughout the weekend.

Although temperatures were lower than they had been during the early part of last week, they were still six degrees above the average for the region.

On Saturday they reached 27C and yesterday peaked at 24 degrees.
Forecasters predict today and tomorrow will be hotter still, but by tomorrow night there will be a series of thundery showers that will cool things down.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "The average for Merseyside at this time of years is about 21 degrees so it is still well above that.

"It will be very warm to hot on Monday and Tuesday but it will not reach the temperatures experience during the heatwave last week. By Tuesday night, we expect to see some thundery showers in the area and that will cool down the temperatures."

Four years now and still an excellent event. A big shame that today rain forced the closure of the BMX/skate street course and vert ramp, but the breakdancing was still going off. Once I started shooting, I realised I'd made a mistake with my lens choice, but I managed to get some shots I was happy with.

I have photos from yesterday of the BMX, bike trials and skating, but I'm still trying to find room on my overloaded hard disk to download them, so they won't be posted until this evening or tomorrow.

Nice one Snappel :PDT11. The best part of HUB in my opinion.

I'd be hard pushed to choose between the breakdancing, bike trials and BMX. I've been into hip-hop and BMX since as long as I can remember, so it's one of my favourite local events. A shame the graf was limited this year to once small bit, but on the whole it was a good event.

Very disappointing the Graf bit. Last years wall was up with completed pieces.

“He didn’t give me a tshirt.” One girl was upset after missing out on a free tee.

Honesty :D I ask for a photo, explain the site I run, get the photo. Just gotta be confident and accept it if they say no.
