View Full Version : Liverpool Aviation Fair
AIRCRAFT buffs are expected to flock to this weekend's Liverpool aviation fair.
This year's fair will be held at the Marriott hotel on the site of the former Speke airport on Sunday.
Families will have a chance to take helicopter flights and there will also be a prize draw for flying lessons supplied by Ravenair, the Liverpool helicentre and West Lancs microlight school.
Horizon Simulation is offering the chance to win a flight for two people down the Welsh coast to Caernarfon and back over Mount Snowdon.
There will be a series of interactive exhibits, including historic fighter cockpits, ejection seats, WWII military vehicles and flight simulators.
There will also be classic cars and motorbikes, a fun-fair, barbecue and aviation art exhibition.
This year's event, organised by Liverpool Jet-stream club, will raise money for club funds, the RSPCA at Halewood, and the Marie Curie cancer hospice in Woolton.
The event will run from 10am to 5pm and entry is £2 per person or £5 per car.

Spectacular :PDT_Piratz_26:, thanks for them. I would have **** myself :celb (23):
THOUSANDS of aircraft enthusiasts ensured the second Liverpool aviation fair was a soar-away success.
Light planes and helicopters from Merseyside police and the RAF featured alongside dragster cars and a collection of aviation arton display at the event held at the Marriott hotel, built on the former Speke Aerodrome.
The event yesterday was organised by the Jetstream Club which owns and maintains the 4th Jetstream J41 prototype at the hotel. Funds raised from the fair will be distributed between the Jetstream Club, Marie Curie Cancer Hospice, Liverpool RSPCA and the Fire Support Network.
Organiser RoyCoates said: "What blew me away was the generosity of the exhibitors. The dragster team came all the way from York and took part for nothing."

So did I! Concentrating on taking pics kept my mind from the reality of being so high up in a fallible machine!
Paul D 08-01-2006, 05:46 PM THE RAF's new Typhoon fighter will be the star attraction at this year's Southport Air Show. The supersonic Typhoon will perform an action-packed aerobatic display on both days of the show, wowing an anticipated crowd of 200,000.

phredd 06-24-2007, 06:14 PM I went as well. Apart from the rain I had a good day out.
Managed to get onto the top waving bay.
The undercarriage of the Britania will be in place about 26 - 29 July 07.
Looking forward to seeing it up on its wheels.

Great pics folks :PDT_Piratz_26:. I've re- added all my pics back into this thread.
phredd 06-24-2007, 08:44 PM Philip :- re Pic number two.
It was £20 for youngsters ?age?
£25 for adults. Seemed steep for the length of time in the air.
That comment was not mine but from a pilot in the other Merseyside chopper.
In my days with the Army, time and cost meant nothing, so I cannot expand on the comment.
Phredd
There are pics from the helicopter at the start of this thread from 2006. U wouldn't get me in that though I'd love too :PDT_Xtremez_42:
phredd 06-24-2007, 09:09 PM I was informed today that the area where the copter was taking off from will not be available next year. A office block is due to be built there.
Alternative helipad looks very dim at present.
I will be shot down in flames for this comment, BUT not all buildings are good for Liverpool.:disgust:

IT WAS “toys for the boys – and girls” over the weekend as the sun made a timely appearance to help out the North West Motor Show and Liverpool’s third annual Aviation Fair at the old Speke Aerodrome.
While Southport played host to its best ever motor show those who prefer to look upwards were rewarded with a bumper crop of aircraft of all shapes in Speke.
Roy Coates, chairman of the Jetstream Club which organised the airshow, said it had been a fantastic day.
He said: “It’s the kind of stuff you don’t get to see every day.
“All the people who have been here have been nice people and we’ve been well supported by the public.
“Now we’re looking forward to next year which will mark the 75th birthday for Liverpool airport.”
The event included all types of aircraft from classic fighter aircraft to helicopters and microlights.
Mr Coates added: “The kids love it, it’s a real hit with them, and with the men too – toys for the boys. And we’ve had a good turnout and the weather was kind to us too.”
Indoors, in addition to many vendors offering aviation memorabilia there was an art exhibition and flight simulator action for those keen to get behind the controls themselves.
Hatfields Jaguar also attended with the rocket equipped evil Zao’s Jaguar from the James Bond film Die Another Day.
For those who prefer the ground the North West Motor Show came to Southport.
The event, now in its fifth year, featured live track action, motorcycle stunts and hundreds of classic cars.
The Techno Centre also showcased motor industry innovations into cleaner driving, and there was a special exhibit featuring award-winning students from the University of Liverpool and their “Formula Student” racing car.
Tom Walsh, one of those involved in organising the event which is put on by Sefton Council and the private sector, said it was their “best show ever”.
He estimated 10,000-11,000 people had attended the weekend show.
