Thanks Kev but nature is the star of this show,my cameras quite decent but I reckon you could get it now for about £200 so it's affordable.:)

Sometimes you feel like you have the whole landscape to yourself it's really calming, other times you see people walking their dog, watching the sunset, having a dip in the sea, having a beach party or even a sing song because I saw someone with his guitar yesterday,if you ever get the opportunity on a Summers evening do it.:celb (23):

Where the ship is on the second picture is a very busy shipping lane which heads off into the Irish Sea,they look great when it gets darker and they're all lit up.
Paul D 09-21-2006, 05:17 PM Wirral beach to play host to sand yachts.
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/6954/wirralqv4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
ONE of Wirral's beaches is to become host to hundreds of sandyachts taking part in the European Championships of what is becoming an increasingly popular "green" sport next year.
Sandyachting has become a major sport in Europe but is still largely unknown in the UK, but Wirral Sandyacht Club (WSYC) has become the largest club of its type in the country with around 150 members.
Now it is preparing to host the European Championships in September 2007, a tournament which is only held in the UK once every five years and has never been to Merseyside before.

lindylou 09-21-2006, 09:01 PM Yes, they're gorgeous pics.

Thanks yes they were all taken at Formby Point.:)
scouserdave 09-23-2006, 04:29 AM Paul, your sunsets look more like oil paintings than photos. They are amazing, mate! Make sure you save the originals!
Paul D 09-23-2006, 02:22 PM Thanks Dave I was just having a mess around with the settings on my camera but I did save all the originals.:)
I was at Formby Beach this very morning and will post a pic or 3 later :PDT_Piratz_26:

Paul D 09-23-2006, 02:49 PM Brilliant Kev isn't it fantastic there, there's no better place to spend the day or evening for that matter.:celb (23):
It was beautiful, really uplifting. The sand was golden but still a pain when it gets in your shoes!
I'm uploading a vid that I will post here too. (Without sound)

The walk through the squirrel reserve (http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?p=19426#post19426) onto the beach then back through the reserve in search of squirrels! I managed to film a few towards the end of the clip.
scouserdave 09-24-2006, 10:46 AM Cracking pics Kev. Just checked out your video. Nice one:celb (23):

They are all lovely pictures.

I'm gonna change my name to Tarquin :celb (23):
sweetpatooti 09-24-2006, 07:13 PM I hope you picked all them up when you had finished!
Paul D 11-02-2006, 10:56 AM After starting off at Fazakerley station we headed off to Moorfields on the underground (I
still love doing that) and we caught the train to West Kirby,on arrival we headed for the
Marina.

[IMG]http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/5905/a3jk3.jpg
There we saw Ian Rush walking his pet rat.:) we crossed the beach to Little
Eye which is the first of three island that make up Hilbre using the safest route.Little eye is tiny so we headed for Middle Eye which is rockpool heaven if
you have kids, were I took this picture of a tiny fish.I'm not sure what it is but poisonous Weaver fish inhabit these pools and kids should never enter them
without
wellies.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9687/a4du1.jpg
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/2042/a9kk4.jpg
r
As Hilbre is cut off from the mainland every day you get to look at all the underwater stuff that is left
behind.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4328/a5fa4.jpg
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4780/a6dp5.jpg
On the sandbank off Middle Eye/Hilbre there is a colony of resident Common and Atlantic Grey Seals which are best viewed with binoculars and was the
reason I was here. This was the best I could do with my
camera.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/557/a8fk0.jpg
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6717/a10xe4.jpg
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6950/a11wd4.jpg
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/758/a12fq9.jpg
Middle Eye
throws up some great rock formations that begged to be explored before we headed off to Hilbre itself.
Paul D 11-02-2006, 11:22 AM On Hilbre you can't help but love the colours of the rock that make up the
island.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/3660/a13mr7.jpg
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2640/a14zt2.jpg
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/679/a15vj1.jpg
Hilbre is really rugged and part of the island is surrounded by the sea and that
adds to its beauty.Watching the waves roll in is really relaxing.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/5934/a16mh7.jpg
At the end of
the island there's an old disused lifeboat station which was interesting to look around. There was this very unusual ladder attached to the
rockface.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1
338/a18rb4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
In this bay we sat for a while and watched the occasional seal pop up from the water before dissappearing under the surface
chasing fish I would imagine. While looking for seals I spotted a rare Red Throated Diver (bird) off the island which made my day. Here's the nose of a seal
(you'll have to take my word for it)
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1347/a20lx3.jpg
The views over the bay and of the Welsh
hills were stunning.
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/2435/a21ww2.jpg
After a long tiring day we headed off home, all in all I
would highly recommend it but small children will find it hard going and probably just the rockpooling bit will be enough for them, also Binoculars are a must
if you want to observe the seals.
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/5065/a22rb9.jpg
This is the reason why Merseyside is a quality
place to live and this is what our landlocked cousins are missing out on.
Brenda 11-02-2006, 11:59 AM Stunning pics Paul, they make me want to put my coat on and go explore that place. :PDT_Piratz_26:
(clicks fingers) FabulAS!:Colorz_Grey_PDT_16:
Outstanding Paul, cheers :037: :PDT_Aliboronz_24: . Looks like a lovely day you had there. I've always wanted to go
there.
Paul D 11-02-2006, 01:04 PM Thanks everyone,if you do decide to go Kev consult this website,it has all the phone numbers for checking out the tides, directions, safest routes
to the islands etc.:)

lindylou 11-02-2006, 01:51 PM Very enjoyable photos. :) thanks for sharing.
Brenda 11-02-2006, 09:17 PM I've just watched a program on BBC2 called "Coast", it started off at Anglesy and
ended up with showing the Iron statues on Crosby beach, it also showed Hilbre Island, it was really interesting.
Did anyone else see it?
yes, just the end bit with The Gormleys, cool :PDT_Piratz_26:
lindylou 11-03-2006, 01:33 PM I missed it, but should be able to catch it on Teleport. :)
I love that program Coast, I watched all of the last series.
ChrisGeorge 04-12-2007, 06:39 PM Hi Paul D
Just came across this thread by chance. Spiffing photographs! As a big fan of Hilbre Island, I enjoyed your pics immensely, Paul. Bravo. :handclap: :handclap: :handclap: :handclap:

ChrisGeorge 04-12-2007, 06:45 PM Also came across this very interesting webpage about the wreck of an 1890s steamship and U-boat victim, The Liverpool, (http://www.divernet.com/cgi-bin/articles.pl?id=1296§ion=5&action=display) located 18 nautical miles east of south-east of the Isle of Man, and about 40 nautical miles north of Anglesey. An article that appeared in Diver August 2005.

chippie 09-17-2007, 09:31 PM Paul, smashing photos, one of my favourite walks and islands. Once had to take a kid from church back to the mainland because he was bored whilst on a day out. We ended up knee high in the incoming tide, we were all scared to death (another kid came home too) as none of us could swim
chippie 09-17-2007, 09:34 PM Nice pics too Kev, I,m a fan of Freshfield and Formby, I only saw two sqirrals last time I was there. Wonder was it the same two or there may have only been one and a mirror in the path. ha ha
