Great them Joe. That petro chemical plant is Stanlow. The biggest in Europe. Used to go to the Eastham Ferry pub for a meal. Used to be good. Took my grandson to the park there and showed him the pit where the bears were. Nice park that with all the little figures all around. We seen the biggest ugliest dog while we were there, and I told him it was a bear. We run all the way to the car. I thought it was funny, but he hasn't slept since.

Excellent pics, GD.

I had a few days working in the QE2 Dock, was lovely when the weather was nice. The old buildings there are cool and I could have gone down into the lock gate but I didn't think I'd get out again lol.

A cpl of workmates did go down there and one of them put the sh1ts up the other by pretending to turn one of them door locking wheel things when they were at the bottom. He wasn't very impressed lol

Thanks Joe.
Despite the number of times I went up the Manchester Ship Canal, I'd never seen the entrance to Eastham locks - all engineers had to be in the engine room while entering the lock. Never understood why - 60% of us would be standing around with nothing to do.

Someone was telling me once that at Eastham they used to take the funnels off and pick them up on the way back. He said used to see all the funnels lined up.

It did happen, but only for a few ships.

Great them Joe. Hard to believe that the road through the village was the main A41. It used to be heaving until they opened the bypass and M53. Someone tod me it was the oldest village in Wirral.
Love them little wooden creatures, if you go through Eastham Woods you can see little creatures carved into the trees. It's good fun walking round trying to spot them.

Yeah, some ships did sometimes have to unship their funnels to traverse the canal, but not many. It was much more common to see ships unshipping their topmasts. They would leave them laid on the quay, and pick them up for reshipping on the return run.
