We spend hours in our gardens but nature does better on her own.
The yellow loosestrife are growing on waste ground in Kirkby untouched by human hand

Very fine, Joe. :handclap: And now I've learned what yellow loosestrife looks like as well. Always wondered what those flowers were.

Just peer inside this beautiful bell
Gently swaying in the warm breeze
Her scent as delicate as those triggers
Sweet pollen deep inside a hidden lure
What pure perfection in her design
Every cell a masterpiece on the hedgerow
Her destiny to spawn and multiply
Bringing her beauty for us to see

More great pics! Liked your poem too, Gerry. I love foxgloves. There was a foxglove that grew at the bottom of my grandparents' garden in Mossley Hill, by the compost pile and so they have always had a romantic association for me. :PDT11

i have spent years trying to get yellow loosetrife to grow in my garden. never ever worked!
my gardening dreams were to see a load of loosestrife flanked by pink digitalis and a sea of dark blue delphiums!!!

A rather large yellow mushroom or is it a toadstool ?

A massive one of those things you'd blow as a kid. I've no idea what it's called.

It's like one of them Dandelions but well bigger. Seed heads are massive. There seems to be a load of em' about this year?

I hope it is a Dandelion...
Goatsbeard
Tragopogon dubius
Also known as Western salsify, this biennial weed disguises itself as a grass when young. The giant dandelion-like seed head follows a giant, dandelion-like flower that blooms in June or July.

Looks like a quince to me, plenty of fruit there for jelly. Where did you see it?

Hi Pinhani
Every year it's like that. In Fazakerley woods.
I've only just found out about Cobam nuts. I went to get some but the pesky squirrels had munched them all.
I intend to start eating more wild fruit seeing as there's so much of it about. :PDT11

You can roast these in the oven with sugar and a bit of water and lemon juice they turn a lovely pink colour when done. They are hard to peel so if you want to make Quince Jelly just stew with sugar and water until really soft and then strain though a sieve or 'jelly bag' and you will have jam like paste that goes well with roast pork or even cheese.

I think it's too big for a quince tree.
Also the fruit are too round.Quince are more of a pear shape.
I would suggest it is a crab apple.

It's a quince if it has a furry skin, if its a crab apple then you can still make crab apple jelly which is very good with meat Same method boil up with sugar water bit of lemon juice if you want but not essential and strain and pour into jars
