Fire By Asda Walton.

On my way to work this morning the pub by Asda Walton, the old Setter and Vine was on fire.
Fire engines there with the high reach engines the whole roof had gone off the pub, does anyone know what happened?

TWO men were set to appear in court today over an alleged grenade attack plot on a Southport businessman.

Police were called to Selworthy Road, Birkdale, at around 10.15pm on Sunday after reports of two men seen acting suspiciously outside the home of security firm boss John Ball.

The pair were challenged by a guard outside the gated home of Mr Ball, 51, and ran off to a silver car parked further along the road.

Police arrived at the scene and searched the area, finding the car and arresting two suspects.

During a more thorough comb of Selworthy Road and the surrounding area, officers found a grenade on the wall outside the home of Liverpool FC legend Kenny Dalglish.



A MERSEYSIDE pub was torched today as part of an escalating vendetta against two local businessmen.

The Cabbage Inn, on Fleetwoods Lane, Netherton, was firebombed just after 3.15am ? forcing the landlady and her partner to flee for their lives.

They were woken by their dog barking as flames took hold in the bar area.

Detectives today confirmed the arson was the latest in a long line of attacks against entrepreneurs Terry Riley and John Ball.

At the weekend, the Birkdale home of security boss Mr Ball was shot at for the second time this year in a drive-by.

He was out, but his wife was in and his children were in bed at the time, as up to five shots were fired.

Numerous addresses linked to the pair have been firebombed and shot at since the turn of the year as local gangsters try to extort money, the ECHO understands.

Today, the smouldering remains of the Cabbage Inn were taped off by police as forensic and fire investigators worked inside.


Army bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and made the device safe before it was taken away for forensic analysis

SHORROCKS Hill owner Terry Riley was targeted by two gunmen on motorbikes earlier this afternoon.

The incident happened near the Sands pub, Ainsdale, at around 1pm.

The road is currently closed off to Southport-bound traffic as police investigate the incident.

It is believed that shots were fired at Mr Riley's car, although police have yet to confirm details of the attack.

It follows an incident on Thursday evening when the house occupied by Mr Riley's parents was targetted in a firebomb attack, while they were inside.

Both Mr Riley, and his parents, escaped serious injury, though all three are said to have been left extremely shaken.

Mr Riley and Southport businessman John Ball are now offering a ?25,000 reward to anyone who can provide information about the attacks that leads to the conviction of those involved.
