Dead Can Dance:
I need my conscience to keep watch over me
To protect me from myself
So I can wear honesty like a crown on my head
When I walk into the promised land
We've been too long american dreaming
And I think we've all lost the way
Like some somnambulistic maniacal in the dark
I'm in love with an american girl
Well she's my best friend
I love her surreptitious smile
That hides the pain within her
And we'll go dancing beside desert waters
Where love is so wastefully spent
And dine upon the crumbs of faith
Most lovers often reject.
Spare a thought for the unfortunate man
Who must choose between love and desire
We've been too long american dreaming
I think we've all lost the way
Like some somnambulistic maniacal in the dark.
Hymn For The Chosen Ones lyrics
Under dark ruins of grief
Shadows of deadangels play
And my silence is a black sky
Faces of death beneath
Intoxicated by pain
Angels rest in rooms
In dusk mankinds ruins rot
Angels with filth stained wings
Humility silent bleeds
As golden grief fades away
Light's shimmering veil
Dim and draped stigmata
And a call echoed in time
Is a hymn for the chosen ones
And a call echoed in time
Is a hymn for the chosen ones
For a saviour is not in sight
Sing the hymn to the chosen ones
There; where the dead lie
Angels would waste a tear
Ravens fly with corroding wings
Driven by immense desire
Staring up in emptiness
Sunken colours move
Magnificent veil of belief
Stimatized angels in utter decay
Deep river silently breathes
Raising emaciated hands
Through mystic infinities

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick up the easy meat
With your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder and harder
As you get older
And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest
You have sown
And as fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And its too late to loose the weight
You used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, alone
Dragged down by the stone
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand on my own ground,
How can I find my own way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do
Would be to isolate the winner
And everything's done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer
Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a seat in the stand
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was dragged down by the stone
You sure you want to be with me
I've nothing to give
Won’t lie and say this lovin's best
Well leave us in emotional pace
Take a walk, taste the rest
No, take a rest
Take a walk, taste the rest
No, take a rest
Take a walk, taste the rest
No, take a rest
I see you digging a hole in your neighborhood
You’re crazy but you’re lazy
I need to live and I need to
Your troubles must be seen to see through
Money like it's paper with faces i remember
I drink on a daily basis
Though it subtle cools my temper
It never cools my temper
Walking through the suburbs though not exactly lovers
You’re a couple, 'specially when your body’s doubled
Duplicate, then you wait for the next kuwait
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
You sure you want to be with me i’ve nothing to give
Take a walk take a rest taste the rest
Take a walk take a rest taste the rest
Take a walk take a rest a taste of rest
Don't want to be on top of your list
Monopoly and properly kissed
We overcome in sixty seconds
With the strength we have to together
But for now, emotional ties they stay severed
When there’s trust there’ll be treats
And when we funk we'll hear beats
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
Karmacoma, jamaica' aroma
Deflowering my baby, aiyee my baby me
I must be crazy, see i'm swazy
Digging a hole in your neighborhood
You're crazy but you're lazy, must be lazy
Don't wanna on top of your list
Monopoly and properly kissed
Deflowering my baby, aiyee my baby me
My baby
Deflowering my baby, aiyee my baby me
I must be crazy, you must be lazy
Karmacoma, what?, jamaica aroma
Karmacoma, what?, jamaica aroma
Karmacoma, what?, jamaica aroma
Karmacoma, what?, jamaica aroma

My attends to you as a mother fears while her children sleep
Now look, see how they're dreaming
The black reciteries, while the children dream
Don't go so deep in slumber
Where you'll shy
Know you'll wander in sleep
Don't you fly too far away
Some men die without crying
Suffering so long and alone
Softly, children, dry your eyes
Gently, children, be wise
My attends to you as a mother hears all her children's fears
So don't cry, all will wash away when we pray
Soon, soon, soon, soon, soon
So if it's okay, i'll wait with you while the sun began to shine
Oh look, your wings are broken
But never a lie was spoken
The murdered thing is love, you see
Drifting on a lake of memory
Now sleep, close your eyes and have no fear
A wide blue sky is very near
Soon, soon, soon, soon, soon
Now sleep, close your eyes and have no fear
A wide blue sky is very near
Dead Can Dance
I sat within the valley green
I sat me with my true love.
My sad heart strove the two between
The old love and the new love.
The old for her the new
That made me think on ireland dearly.
While the soft wind blew down the glade
And shook the golden barley.
Twas hard the woeful words to frame
To break the ties that bound us.
But harder still to bear the shame
Of foreign chains around us.
And so I said the mountain glen
Ill meet at morning early.
And Ill join the bold united men
While soft winds shook the barley.
Twas sad I kissed away her tears
My fond arm round her flinging.
When a foe, mans shot burst on our ears
From out the wild woods ringing.
A bullet pierced my true loves side
In lifes young spring so early.
And on my breast in blood she died
While soft winds shook the barley.
But blood for blood without remorse
Ive taen at oulart hollow.
Ive lain my true loves clay like corpse
Where I full soon must follow.
Around her grave Ive wandered drear
Noon, night, and morning early.
With breaking heart when eer I hear
The wind that shakes the barley.
Dead can Dance
Inflammable material is planted in my head
It's a suspect device that's left 2000 dead
Their solutions are our problems
They put up the wall
On each side time and prime us
And make sure we get **** all
They play their games of power
They mark and cut the pack
They deal us to the bottom
But what do they put back?
Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Don't be bitten twice
you gotta suss, suss, suss, suss, suss out
Suss suspect device
They take away our freedom
In the name of liberty
Why don't they all just clear off
Why won't they let us be
They make us feel indebted
For saving us from hell
And then they put us through it
It's time the *******s fell
Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Don't be bitten twice
you gotta suss, suss, suss, suss, suss out
Suss suspect device
Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Question everything you're told
Just take a look around you
At the bitterness and spite
Why can't we take over and try to put it right
Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Don't be bitten twice
you gotta suss, suss, suss, suss, suss out
Suss suspect device
We're a suspect device if we do what we are told
But a suspect device can score an own goal
I'm a suspect device the Army can't defuse
You're a suspect device they know they can't refuse
We're gonna blow up in their face
Stiff Little Fingers
For once in my life I've got something to say
I wanna say it now for now is today
A love has been given so why not enjoy
So let's all grab and let's all enjoy
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
Just take a look around you
What do you see
Kids with feelings like you and me
Understand him, he'll understand you
For you are him, and he is you
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
I don't want to be rejected
I don't want to be denied
Then its not my misfortune
That I've opened up your eyes
Freedom is given
Speak how you feel
I have no freedom
How do you feel
They can lie to my face
But not to my heart
If we all stand together
It will just be the start
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
If the kids are united then we'll never be divided
Sham 69
Nothin' for us in Belfast
The Pound's so old it's a pity
OK, there's the Trident in Bangor
Then walk back to the city
We ain't got nothin' but they don't really care
They don't even know you know
Just want our money
And we can take it or leave it
What we need is
An Alternative Ulster
Grab it and change it it's yours
Get an Alternative Ulster
Ignore the bores and their laws
Get an Alternative Ulster
Be an anti-security force
Alter your native Ulster
Alter your native land
Take a look where you're livin'
You got the Army on your street
And the RUC dog of repression
Is barking at your feet
Is this the kind of place you wanna live?
Is this where you wanna be?
Is this the only life we're gonna have?
What we need is
An Alternative Ulster
Grab it and change it it's yours
Get an Alternative Ulster
Ignore the bores and their laws
Get an Alternative Ulster
Be an anti-security force
Alter your native Ulster
Alter your native land
They say they're a part of you
And that's a lie you know
They say they've got control of you
But that's not true you know
They say you will never be
Free free free
Get an Alternative Ulster, Alternative Ulster, Alternative Ulster.

This song is about all of the tiny creatures that live in rock pools and it talks about when the tide comes in it's as if their whole universe has expanded, heavy man.
"Natural Science" by Rush
[1. Tide Pools]
When the ebbing tide retreats
Along the rocky shoreline
It leaves a trail of tidal pools
In a short-lived galaxy
Each microcosmic planet
A complete society
A simple kind mirror
To reflect upon our own
All the busy little creatures
Chasing out their destinies
Living in their pools
They soon forget about the sea...
Wheels within wheels in a spiral array
A pattern so grand and complex
Time after time we lose sight of the way
Our causes can't see their effects
[2. Hyperspace]
A quantum leap forward
In time and in space
The universe learned to expand
The mess and the magic
Triumphant and tragic
A mechanized world out of hand
Computerized clinic
For superior cynics
Who dance to a synthetic band
In their own image
Their world is fashioned
No wonder they don't understand
[3. Permanent Waves]
Science, like nature
Must also be tamed
With a view towards its preservation
Given the same
State of integrity
It will surely serve us well
Art as expression
Not as market campaigns
Will still capture our imaginations
Given the same
State of integrity
It will surely help us along
The most endangered species
The honest man
Will still survive annihilation
Forming a world
State of integrity
Sensitive, open and strong
Wave after wave will flow with the tide
And bury the world as it does
Tide after tide will flow and recede
Leaving life to go on as it was...

For no other reason than it's about Liverpool,it's good to see an Internationally known artist put us on the map.
SUZANNE VEGA
"In Liverpool"
In Liverpool
On Sunday
No traffic
On the avenue
The light is pale and thin
Like you
No sound, down
In this part of town
Except for the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am
Homesick for a clock
That told the same time
sometimes you made no sense to me
if you lie on the ground
in somebody's arms
you'll probably swallow some of their history
And the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am
I'll be the girl who sings for my supper
You'll be the monk whose forehead is high
He'll be the man who's already working
Spreading a memory all through the sky
In Liverpool
On Sunday
No reason to even remember you now
Except for the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am
In Liverpool [X2]

Speaking of Liverpool lyrics, how about this old favourite?
I know: If you interpret the lyrics literally, it sounds like someone has completely lost the plot. But if you interpret them in the Zen way, very ultra-cool: :celb (6):
Going Down To Liverpool Lyrics
by Bangles
Hey now...
Where you going with that load of nothing in your hand
I said: Hey now...
All through this green and pleasant land.
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
All the days of my life
All the days of my life.
Hey there...
Where you going with that UB40 in your hand
I said: Hey there...
All through this green and pleasant land.
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
All the days of my life
All the days of my life.
Hey now
Where you going with that UB40 in your hand
I said: Hey now
All through this green and pleasant land.
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
I'm going down to Liverpool to do nothing
All the days of my life
All the days of my life.

In My Liverpool Home
In My Liverpool Home
cho: In my Liverpool Home, In my Liverpool Home
We speak with an accent exceedingly rare,
Meet under a statue exceedingly bare,
And if you want a Cathedral, we've got one to spare
In my Liverpool Home.....
I was born in Liverpool, down by the docks
Me Religion was catholic, occupation Hard-Knocks
At stealing from lorries I was adept,
And under old overcoats each night I slept
Way back in the forties the world it went mad
Mister Hitler threw at us everything that he had
When the smoke and dust had all cleared from the air
"Thank God" said the ald fella, "The Pier Head's still there"
When I grew up I met Bridget McGann
she said "Your not much but I'm needin a man"
"Well a want sixteen kids and an 'ouse out in Speke"
Well the spirit was willing but the flesh it was weak
There's a place in dis city were the nits de wear clogs
They've six millon kids and ten million dogs
De play tick with hatchets and I'll tell you no lie
a man's a coward if he has more than one eye.
The Green and the Orange have battled for years
They've given us some laughs and they've given us some tears
But Scousers don't want a heavenly reward
They just want the Green Card to get into Fords
The Dockers Umbrella has bitten the dust
You might buy a Meccanno, no charge for the rust
Scottie Road is a legend now past away
But you can go down to Yateses and drink all the day.
Made popular by the Spinners. This song is supposed to have
around 300 VERSES. SRR

I grew up in the US with the following two songs. The lyrics may be a little depressing, but I still love them and maybe that's just the way I am (And maybe that's just fine). One is about Liverpool, and the other is about Salford (But always reminds me of Liverpool :slywink:):
Liverpool Lullaby
Author: Stan Kelly
Oh you are a mucky kid,
Dirty as a dustbin lid
When he finds out the things you did
You'll get a belt from your da
Oh you have your father's nose
So crimson in the dark, it glows
If you're not asleep when the boozers close
You'll get a belt from your da
You look so scruffy lying there
Strawberry jam tufts in your hair
Though in the world you haven't a care
And I have got so many
It's quite a struggle everyday
Living on your father's pay
‘cause the bugger drinks it all away
And leaves me without any
Although we have no silver spoon
Better days are coming soon
Now Nellie's working at the Lune
And she gets paid on Friday
Perhaps one day we'll have a bash
When Littlewoods provide the cash
We'll get a house in Knotty Ash
And buy your dad a brewery
Oh you are a mucky kid,
Dirty as a dustbin lid
When he finds out the things you did
You'll get a belt from your da
Oh you have your father's face
You're growing up a real hard case
But there's no one can take your place
Go fast asleep for Mammy

Dirty Old Town
By Ewan McColl
I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
Kissed a girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Clouds a drifting across the moon
Cats a prowling on their beat
Spring's a girl in the street at night
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Heard a siren from the docks
Saw a train set the night on fire
Smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I'm going to make me a good sharp axe
Shining steel tempered in the fire
Will chop you down like an old dead tree
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
Kissed a girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

My uncle was a World Champion at Irish Dancing and toured America with The Dubliners.:celb (23):
The Dubliners-The Leaving of Liverpool
Farewell to Princes' landing stage River Mersey fare thee well
I am bound for California, a place I know right well
So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee
I have sailed with Burgess once before, I think I know him well
If a man's a sailor he will get along, if not then he's sure in hell
So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee
Farewell to Lower Frederick Street, Anson Terrace and Park Lane
I am bound away for to leave you and I'll never see you again
So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee
I am bound for California by way of stormy Cape Horn
And I will write to thee a letter, love, when I am homeward bound
So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee
I've shipped on a Yankee clipper ship, "Davy Crockett" is her name
And Burgess is the captain of her and they say that she's a floating hell
So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee
HEART AS BIG AS LIVERPOOL
When all the lights go out forever
Somewhere near the end of time
The noise will pass and the dust will settle
And you'll be on my mind
Now you won't find it hard to understand
Though it's so hard to explain
The who and what and how and why and wherefore
You kept me sane
You kept me sane
'Cos you were there for me
Oh, and you set me free
To be what I want to be
With dignity
Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL
Well I'll come running from the other side
When I hear you call my name
And if somebody wants to point the finger
I'll take the blame
I'll take the blame (I'll do the same)
'Cos you were there for me
Oh, and you set me free
To be what I want to be
With dignity
Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL
And I am not alone
And I am not alone
And I am not alone
And I am not alone
And I am not alone (You are not alone)
And I am not alone (You are not alone)
And I am not alone (You are not alone)
And I am not alone (You are not alone)
You are not alone
Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by water cool
Heart as big as the city
Heart as big as LIVERPOOL
Heart as big as my hometown
Lay me down by the water cool
Heart as big as the city
LIVERPOOL
(And you are not alone)
And I am not alone!

Pete Doherty of The Libertines used to live in Anfield and here's a song he wrote.
The Libertines-Breck Road Lover
I, I know a girl
And she flies
Right off the handle
At the sound
Of scratching on the wall
Well it could go either way
But I don't mind at all
Cause I'll go, I'll go
And I'll got to Liverpool, Oh oh oh
Well I know I'll be loved there
She's no scrubber
She's my Breck Road lover
And we wash in dirty waters
And walk the streets where
She gets her name
Oh my lady
My lady clear your ears now
And open up your eyes
We're all out of sync now
And we no longer harmonise
And if lust and despair
Are two bullets in the same gun
Well we've been playing Russian roulette
For far too long
So I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Well I'll go back to Liverpool, oh oh oh
Well I know I'll be loved there
She's no scrubber
She's my Breck Road lover
And we wash in dirty waters
And walk the streets where
She gets her name
Yes, often as we lie
On the altar of the morning
Well I call up to the sky
Light my way, and I promise I'll believe
I'll go
I'll go, I know I'll go to Liverpool
Well I know I'll be loved there
She's no scrubber
She's my Breck Road lover
And we wash in dirty waters
And walk the streets where
She gets her name
You see I, I know a girl
And she flies
Right off the handle
Always at the sound
Of scratchings on the wall
It could go either way
But I don't mind at all
Cause I'll go, no I'll go, I'll go
Well, I'll go back to Liverpool, oh oh oh
Yes I know I'll be loved there
She's no scrubber
She's my Breck Road lover
And we wash in dirty waters
And we walk the streets where
She gets her name
We walk the streets where
She gets her name

This is a classic and not because it's about Liverpool, the original verion of the song was supposed to have described a bus journey through South Liverpool but they later settled for this.
In My Life-The Beatles
There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
In my Mersey Paradise
River splashes against the rocks
And I scale the slope
I hope the tracks won't
Lead me down to dark black pits or
Places where we fall to bits
If she were there I'd hold her down
I'll push her under while she drowns
And couldn't breathe and claw for air
She doesn't care for my despair
Or is it me?
The one that's wrong?
You see it in the sea
River cools where I belong
In my Mersey paradise
As I stare an oil can comes
Sailing by and I feel like
Growing fins and falling in
With the bricks the bikes the rusty tin
I swim along without a care
I'm eating sand when I need air
You can bet your life I'll meet a pike who'll
Wolf me down for tea tonight
I want to be (I want to be)
Where the drownings are (drownings are)
You see it in the sea
Liverpool's where I belong
In my Mersey paradise
I want to be (I want to be)
Where the drownings are (drownings are)
You see it in the sea
Liverpool's where I belong
Oh yeah
I want to be (I want to be)
Where the drownings are (drownings are)
You see it in the sea
River cool's where I belong
In my Mersey paradise

Written while in Widnes railway station I believe.
Homeward Bound-Simon and Garfunkel
I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket to my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And ev'ry stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Ev'ry day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And ev'ry stranger's face I see reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Silently for me.

You'll Never Walk Alone
(R. Rodgers and O. Hammerstein II)
When you walk through the storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Travelling overseas I was accosted by a student
Who asked me where I came from, she was pretty
Children don't put smack in your veins
Lennon cut his teeth here
And the party-pooping left wing
Wouldn't play the Tories game
We're always in the market for an off-beat love affair
With a foreign delegation condescending for a share
Of a pressure cooker spouting steam
That threatens to unload
With a power so formidable
The Russian bear is in the woods somewhere
Televised comedians united in approval
The drama that confronts you with real people in real times
I'm only in a band because I failed my own audition
You have to see somebody suffer other than yourself
Right now we're in a jam
We'll call you back when we get straight
'Cos Townsend's coming 'round
He understands, he won't be late
There's lots of food for thought
But not a great deal on our plate
The southerners don't like us
Who can blame 'em seems we're always in the spotlight
We're always in the market for an off-beat love affair
Heseltine came up now trees are sprouting everywhere
McDonalds finally found us and we're folklore in Turin
We used to pull the ships in
Now we're goin' down
Look at the state we're in

Is this the only time Fazakerley and Wavertree have been mentioned in song?
IAN MCNABB - MERSEYBEAST
VERSE 1
I went down to the fishing hole, with a line and a pole
The ice gave way and I fell in, the police went to inform my next of kin
But I didn't drown I held my breath, I figured that I'd fake my death
As I drifted down the Gulf stream to Miami
I dried off at the blood bank, got a rental with a full tank
Headed south, not even thinking I was jammy
CHORUS
I'm funky and I'm free
This is how I plan to be
I'm a rockin', good-time boy
And I can't contain my joy, I can't contain my joy
VERSE 2
I had a friend who took a wife - did too much junk and lost her life
He ran away to kill the pain - such a shame, he didn't see a train
They found his legs in Wavertree, his arms were in Fazakerley
The Doctors somehow put him back together
Now he lives down in the Dingle, says he's happy being single
Smokes a lot of dope, and rambles on forever
VERSE 3
One day I plan to own a boat, on bright blue water I will float
A good strong woman by my side, across life's sweet ocean we will glide
For the unknown is the wonder, though you're frightened by the thunder
It's the danger that appeals and keeps you going
Though it's hard to know the answers, or the names of all the dancers
Just as long as this delicious wine keeps flowing

Have you heard the original version Paul? It's on 'Boots'. :)
I had a friend who took a wife - did too much junk and lost her life
He ran away to kill the pain - such a shame, he didn't see a train
They found his legs in Wavertree, his arms were in Fazakerley
His genitals and anus are still missing
You can't help but feel sorry, for the guy who drove the lorry,
When the severed head came down where he was ****ing..
Amended version was probably a safer bet. :)

This is getting weird now. It was me who posted the two posts above, in case confusion abounds...
Cheers
Matt and Paul for highlighting this. :)
His Christmas special at the L2 last year was something else. He performed In the Cauldron of Love, a few more of the earlier ones and my personal favourite 'What she did to my mind', and the sound was phenomonal. Much better than the Bunnymen gig the following week. :)
Shame about his ballardeering though...
I'm looking forward to it too!!
Haven't seen the man himself for years. The last time was in Manchester just before he released his first solo album Truth and Beauty
You got a free 2 track promo cd on the way in and the place was rammed. Sweated it out down at the front even though the fella that used to play Andy McDonald (Steve's brother) in Corrie kept standing on me foot all night. The biff.
He played his new stuff and then a mazzy encore of all classic Icies stuff. I took loads of photies too, I'll have to dig 'em out.
Maybe we should start that Icicle Works thread like you suggested, eh Paul?!

I was born by the river,in a little tent
and just like that river i've been running ever since
Its been a long time comming
But i know a change is gonna come,oh yes it will
Its been too hard living, but im afraid to die
cause i don't know whats up here beyond the sky
Its been a long time comming, but i know a change is gonna come.
And i go see my brother, and ask him to help me please
but he just winds up knocki'n me

Fantastic lyrics from Fish about Northern Ireland
Marillion-Forgotten Sons.
Armalite, street lights, nightsights
Searching the roofs for a sniper, a viper, a fighter
Death in the shadows he'll maim you, he'll wound you, he'll kill you
For a long forgotten cause, on not so foreign shores
Boys baptised in wars
Morphine, chill scream, bad dream
Serving as numbers on dogtags, flakrags, sandbags
Your girl has married your best friend, loves end, poison pen
Your flesh will always creep, tossing turning sleep
The wounds that burn so deep
Your mother sits on the edge of the world
W when the cameras start to roll
Panoramic viewpoint resurrect the killing fold
Your father drains another beer, he's one of the few that cares
Crawling behind a Saracen's hull from the safety of his living room chwair
Forgotten sons, forgotten sons, forgotten sons
And so as I patrol in the valley of the shadow of the tricolour
I must fear evil, for I am but mortal and mortals can only die
Asking questions, pleading answers from the nameless faceless watchers
That stalk the carpeted corridors of Whitehall
Who orders desecration, mutilation, verbal masturbation
I in the guarded bureaucratic wombs
Minister, minister care for your children, order them not into ****ation
To eliminate those who would trespass against you
For whose is the kingdom, the power, the glory forever and ever, Amen
Halt who goes there, Death, approach friend
You're just another coffin on its way down the emerald aisle
When your children's stony glances mourn your death in a terrorist's smile
The bomber's arm placing fiery gifts on the supermarket shelves
Alley sings with shrapnel detonate a temporary hell
Forgotten Sons
From the dole queue to the regiment a profession in a flash
But remember Monday signings when from door to door you dash
On the news a nation mourns you unknown soldier, count the cost
For a second you'll be famous but labelled posthumous
Forgotten sons, forgotten sons
Peace on earth and mercy mild, Mother Brown has lost her child
Just another Forgotten Son
So guess where my new signature comes from?

Redemption Song...Words by Bob Marley
Old pirates yes they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I from the
Bottom less pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the almighty
We forward in this generation triumphantly
All I ever had is songs of freedom
Won't you help to sing these songs of freedom
Cause all I ever had redemption songs, redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy
Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look
Some say it's just a part of it
We've got to fulfill the book
Won't you help to sing, these songs of freedom
Cause all I ever had, redemption songs, redemption songs, redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy
Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look
Yes some say it's just part of it
We've got to fulfill the book
Won't you help to sing, these songs of freedom
Cause all I ever had, redemption songs
All I ever had, redemption songs
These songs of freedom, songs of freedom

This song is a really moving song about women who suffer abuse from their husbands and put up with it.
Fish-family Business
I heard a battle raging on the other side of the wall
I buried my head in a pillow and tried to ignore it all.
Every night when I hear you I dream of breaking down your door
an avenging knight in shining armour, to rescue you from it all.
>From this family business, family business
how long does it stay, family business.
It's nobody's business, this family business,
but tell me how long it remains family business.
When I see you at the supermarket, sunglasses in the shade
averting your eyes from those staring questions, how were those bruises made?
The children clutch tight to your legs, they've got so much they want to say
but daddy's sitting home, drunk again so they bite their lips and pray
cos daddy don't like people poking in his private affairs
and if anyone asks from the social, well, you tripped and fell down the stairs.
It's family business, keep it in the family business.
Can you tell me how long it remains family business?
It's nobody's business, this family business.
But tell me how long it should stay family business.
She's waiting at the bus stop at the bottom of the hill
she know's she'll never catch it, she knows she never will.
The kids are all she lives for, she's got nothing left to lose,
nowhere to escape to, but she knows she's got to move.
Cos when daddy tucks the kids in, it's taking longer every night.
It's family business, keep it in the family business.
Can you tell me how long it reamins family business?
It's nobody's business, this family business.
But tell me how long it should stay family business.
So I become an accessory and I don't have an alibi
to the victim on my doorstep the only way I can justify.
It's family business, family business.
How long do we keep it family business

Juanita by Shania Twain. I love this. It's an inspirational song for women.
JUANITA
Written by Twain/Lange
She is the restless river
running through my veins
She rides without the reins --
her name's Juanita
She lives in the heart of every
woman in the world
Within the reach of every girl
who wants to meet her
(She's gonna be ridin' through)
Her name's Juanita
(She's gonna be ridin' free) She's ridin' free
(She's gonna be inside of you, gonna be
inside of me) She's inside of you
and inside of me, yeah
Chorus:
Oh, go with her -- flow with her
Dream with her -- scream with her
Let her take over, or just get to know her
Be everything you can be
If you can find her and free her
Juanita will unchain your heart
When someone tries to take
away the freedom of your choice
To take away your voice --
that's when you need her
She's there if you dare to give
your broken wings a try
C'mon and take a leap and fly,
and you can be her
(She's gonna be ridin' through) Oh, Juanita
(She's gonna be ridin' free) Ridin' free
(She's gonna be a part of you, gonna be a
part of me) She's a part of you and a part
of me, yeah
Repeat Chorus
Instrumental Solo
Oh, go with her -- flow with her
Dream with her -- scream with her
Let her take over, or just get to know her
Be everything you can be
Repeat Chorus

Here's an old family favourite we often sing around the piano at parties...
"I'd like to take you now on wings of song, as it were, and try and help you forget perhaps for a while your drab, wretched lives. Here's a song all about spring-time in general, and in particular, about one of the many delightful pastimes the coming of spring affords us all.
Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes ev'ry Sunday a treat for me.
All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.
When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Ev'rything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Lalaalaalalaladoodiedieedoodoodoo
We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.
So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment.
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strychnine
We feed to a pigeon.
It just takes a smidgin!
To poison a pigeon in the park.
Tom Lehrer
(Don't try this at home kids....)
I want to see all of the things that we’ve already seen
I want to see you take the jackpot out the fruit machine
And put it all back in
You’ve got to understand it you can never beat the bandit
from 'View from the afternoon' by Arctic Monkeys
Great album.
Reminds me of lots of the early punk in sound and attitude.
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

RED LIGHT INDICATES DOORS ARE SECURE-ARCTIC MONKEYS
Ask if we can have six in, if not we'll have to have two
You're coming up our end aren't you? So I'll get one with you
Oh won't he let us have six in? especially not with the food
He coulda just told us no though, he dint have to be rude
See her in the green dress? She talked to me at the bar
How come its already two pound fifty? We've only gone about a yard
Dint ya see she were gorgeous, she was beyond belief
But this lad at the side drinking a Smirnoff ice came and paid for her tropical Reef
And I'm sitting going backwards, and I didn't want to leave
Its High Green mate, via Hillsborough please
How funny was that sketch earlier, up near that taxi rank
Oh no you will have missed it, think it was when you went to the bank
These two lads squaring up proper shouting, bout who was next in the queue
The kind of thing that would seem so silly but not when they've both had a few
Calm down temper temper, you shouldn't get so annoyed
You're acting like a silly little boy
They wanted to be men and do some fighting in the street
No surrender, no chance of retreat
Drunken plots hatched to jump it, ask around are ya sure?
Went for it but the red light was showing
And the red light indicates doors are secured
FAKE TALES OF SAN FRANCISCO-ARCTIC MONKEYS
Fake Tales of San Francisco
Echo through the room
More point to a wedding disco
Without a bride or groom
There's a super cool band yeah
With their trilbys and their glasses of white wine
And all the weekend rock stars in the toilets
Practicing their lines
I don't want to hear you
(Kick me out, kick me out)
I don't want to hear you no
(Kick me out, kick me out)
Fake Tales of San Francisco
Echo through the air
And there's a few bored faces in the back
All wishing they weren't there
And as the microphone squeaks
A young girl's telephone beeps
Yeah she's dashing for the exit
she's running to the streets outside
"Oh you've saved me," she screams down the line
"The band were f*cking w@nk
And I'm not having a nice time”
Yeah but his bird thinks it's amazing, though
So all that's left
Is the proof that love's not only blind but deaf
He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar
I don't quite know the distance
But I'm sure that's far
I'm sure that's pretty far
I'd love to tell you all my problem
You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham
So get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook

GREEN AND GREY
(Heaton/Sullivan) 1987
The time I think most clearly, the time I drift away
Is on the bus-ride that meanders up these valleys of green and grey
I get to think about what might have been and what may yet come true
And I get to pass a rainy mile thinking of you
And all the while, all the while, I still hear that call
To the land of gold and poison that beckons to us all
Nothing changes here very much, I guess you'd say it never will
The pubs are all full on Friday nights and things get started still
We spent hours last week with Billy boy, bleeding, yeah queuing in Casualty
Staring at those posters we used to laugh at:
Never Never Land, palm trees by the sea
Well there was no need for those guys to hurt him so bad
When all they had to do was knock him down
But no one asks to many questions like that since you left this town
Ch: And tomorrow brings another train
Another young brave steals away
But you're the one I remember
From these valleys of green and the grey
You used to talk about winners and losers all the time - as if that was all there was
As if we were not of the same blood family, as if we live by different laws
Do you owe so much less to these rain swept hills than you owe to your good self?
Is it true that the world has always got to be something
That seems to happen somewhere else?
For God's sake don't you realise that I still hear that call
Do you think you're so brave just to go running to that which beckons to us all?
No, not for one second did you look behind you
As you were walking away
Never once did you wish any of us well
Those who had chosen to stay
And if that's what it takes to make it
In the place that you live today
Then I guess you'll never read these letters that I send
From the valleys of the green and the grey
NMA.............
YOU WEREN'T THERE
(Sullivan) 1999
Well, you say it's such a small, small world
flying Club Class back from the far-east
curled up safe and warm in the big chair
you were drifting through the skies of anywhere
Get the courtesy car to the Sheraton
there's live on-the-spot reports on the CNN between the ad-breaks
so you think you know what's going on - but you don't
because you weren't in Belfast, no you weren't there
and no you weren't in Waco, no you weren't there
and you weren't in Kosovo, you weren't there
and you weren't in my head so you don't know how it felt
walking arm in arm with crowds to the square
and the banners waving and the sun glinting
All this information swims round and round
like a shoal of fish in a tank going nowhere
Up and down between the glass walls
You're so safe in the knowledge they're impenetrable
and you look out at the world and see nothing at all
so go back to sleep and you'll be woken when the time comes
and you'll never know just what hit you or where it came from
because you weren't in Bradford, no you weren't there
and you weren't on the hill, no you weren't there
and you weren't with us so you never saw
just what happened when the television crews came knocking on the door
how the people told them all to go to Hell,
smashed the cameras and sent them away
There were sirens going off and policemen coming in
and all that you love was being swept away
in the rush of a black tide all done in your name
and you'll never know just what happened there
or how it feels - just how it feels . . .
NMA.............
THESE WORDS
(Sullivan) 1992
Through the years of decay we walk like tigers in cages
With each passing turn the smaller and smaller the circles
Every weapon and word legitimate now as protection
But these things should never be spoken
These things should never be spoken
I stand undefeated alone in the ring just pacing
The sweat and the blood dried on my hands all wasted
I'm shouting "come back and fight for I am the king"
But the lights are all out and the people are gone
We always burned brightest when no one was watching
Now I kiss the lines on your beautiful face
But these things should never be spoken
These things should never be spoken
And sometimes your hunger for life seems like desperation
And when I read about the world these days all I can feel is hatred
The fortune teller is closing her doors
She looked into the crystal and saw nothing at all
They're waiting round here for something to happen
They won't really want it when it rolls out to greet them
But these things should never be spoken
These things should never be spoken
NMA........
VAGABONDS
(Sullivan) 1987
We follow the taillights out of the city
Moving in a river of red
As the colours fade away from the dusky sunset
We roll for the darkness ahead
Ch: We are old, we are young, we are in this together
Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever
With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder
Kicking out behind us again
Night-time City Beat the radio is calling
The lost and lonely in vain
Out here we are running for the wide open spaces
The road-smell after the rain
Ch: We are old, we are young, we are in this together
Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever
With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder
Kicking out behind us again
And watching as a boy alone at the quayside
The ships loading cargo in the night
Their names all calling to faraway places
The years go past, the miles go by
And still this childhood romance will not die

FKoE mate!
At last another NMA fan! They're one of my all time favourite bands. Thunder and Consolation is probably one of the best albums ever. I was lucky enough to get a VIP pass for their gig in Bradford on the Love of Hopeless Causes Tour. Met them all and drank with them backstage. Was really surprised by how small Sullivan was. The night ended with me having a wee with Nelson and him wishing me a Merry Xmas!
Whey hey!!! ... We are few and far between these days eh?
How about PIL or even Magazine, are you a fan ?

Yes that's right, punk is dead
It's just another cheap product for the consumers head
Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors
Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters
CBS promote the Clash
Ain't for revolution, it's just for cash
Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be
Ain't got a thing to do with your or me
Movements are systems and systems kill
Movements are expressions of the public will
Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost
Leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost
Punk narcissism was a social napalm
Steve Jones started doing real harm
Preaching revolution, anarchy and change
Sucked from the system that had given him his name
Well I'm tired of staring through **** stained glass
Tired of staring up a superstars arse
I've got an arse and crap and a name
I'm just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame
Steven Jones, you're napalm
If you're so pretty vacant, why do you smarm?
Patti Smith, you're napalm, your write with your hand
But it's Rimbaud's arm
And me, yes, I, do I want to burn?
Is there something I can learn?
Do I need a business man to promote my angle
Can I resist the carrots that fame and fortune dangle
I see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear
The social elite with safetypins in their ear
I watch and understand that it don't mean a thing
The scorpions might attack, but the systems stole the sting
PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD

Just wondered if there were any Thomas Lang fans here!.Been to see him a few times last time at a venue on Bold Street around a year ago, things seem to have gone quiet again is he in the recording studios does anyone know?
Im currently playing the latest offering from Scritti Politti (anyone remember them!.Its called White Bread Black Beer.Has been described by some as a cross between the Beatles & Beach Boys in its sound. What i can say though is there are plenty of influences within this album, well worth checking out if you dont like your music too heavy.

The FLaming Lips - Yeah yeah yeah ----- This song makes me want to jump up and down, very uplifting!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah [repeated throughout song]
(Ahhhhhh, ahhhhhh, ahhhhhh...)
If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch
Would you do it?
If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich
Would you do it?
If you could watch everybody work while you just lay on your back
Would you do it?
If you could take all the love without giving any back
Would you do it?
And so we cannot know ourselves
Or what we'd really do
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?
If you could make your own money and then give it to everybody
Would you do it?
If you knew all the answers and could give to the masses
Would you do it?
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah/no no no no)
Are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself, or what you'd really do
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

Big City Life,
Me try fi get by,
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try.
Big City Life,
Here my heart have no base,
And right now Babylon de pon me case.
People in a show,
All lined in a row.
We just push on by,
Its funny,
How hard we try.
Take a moment to relax.
Before you do anything rash.
Don't you wanna know me?,
Be a friend of mine.
I'll share some wisdom with you.
Don't you ever get lonely,
From time to time
Don't let the system get you down
Big City Life,
Me try fi get by,
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try.
Big City Life,
Here my heart have no base,
And right now Babylon de pon me case.
Soon our work is done,
All of us one by one.
Still we live our lives,
As if all this stuff survives.
I take a moment to relax,
Before I do anything rash.
The Linguist across the seas and the oceans,
A permanent Itinerant is what I;ve chosen.
I find myself in Big City prison, arisen from the vision of man kind.
Designed, to keep me discreetly neatly in the corner,
you'll find me with the flora and the fauna and the hardship.
Back a yard is where my heart is still I find it hard to depart this Big City Life.
Big City Life,
Me try fi get by,
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try.
Big City Life,
Here my heart have no base,
And right now Babylon de pon me case.

Another New Model Army classic
MASTER RACE
(Sullivan) 1986
Well we all learned how to use a fork and a knife
How sometimes we have to wear a suit and tie
And understand these things are what give us the right
To go around the world acting superior
We live with missiles and the armaments cache
With rewritten histories and a fictional past
And though some of us still have questions to ask
This ship, she sails without a captain
Ch: Godd@mn the Master Race that we're born in
Godd@mn the howling wolf that we're serving
I've had it up to here . . .
And the opposition, we ain't doing so well
Our understanding is weak and our knowledge is small
And though kids scrawl frustration on the back street wall
Most of them can't even spell b@stard
Ch: Godd@mn the Master Race that we're born in
Godd@mn the howling wolf that we're serving
Sometimes all I know is that cold wind blows
Down the valley from the mountain snows
On these muggy nights I lie awake
And wait for the thunder and the skies to break
But they are god and they are strong
And they can name the right and wrong
And they reclaim the things they own
They call us now . . .
So Candy please forgive these things that I've done
When the Master Race calls I know sometimes that I run
You mean more to me now than you ever did before
As I try to stay away from their clutches
Ch: Godd@mn the master race that we're born in
Godd@mn the howling wolf that we're serving
:D
Today, as you listen to this song
Another 394,000 children were born into this world
They break like waves of hunger and desire upon these eroded shores
Carrying the curses of history and a history yet unwritten
The oil burns in thick black columns, the buzz saws echo through the forest floor
They shout give us our fair share, give us justice
Here comes the war
On a grey morning to the south of here
Two young men in makeshift uniforms peer into the misty light
And figures dart behind the trees
As a snap of rifle rounds echoes out across the fields
They hardly know their sacred mother tongue but they know their duty
To defend the flag hanging limp and bloody above the village church
While a thousand miles away, in a warehouse complex down by the river,
Young money men play paintball games
Here comes the war - put out the lights on the Age of Reason
So blow out the candle and tell us another of those great stories,
the ones about serial killers. Let dreams flow into savage times.
Do you hear the sirens scream across the city?
We've had three hot nights in succession - the riot season is here again
Dear Lord, lead us back into the Valley of the Shadow of Death,
Here comes the war. Did you think we were born in peaceful times?
Faster, faster, like a whirling dervish spinning round
Faster, faster, until the Centre cannot Hold
You screamed give us Liberty or give us Death
Now you've got both, what do you want next ?
Here comes the war - put out the lights on the Age of Reason.
Oh, I thought he was the wife :D
He's my beeatch :D .... But don't tell him

PORTISHEAD
"It Could Be Sweet"
I don't want to hurt you
For no reason have I but fear
And I ain't guilty of the crimes you accuse me of
But I'm guilty of fear
I'm sorry to remind
You but I'm scared of what we're creating
This life ain't fair
You don't get something for nothing, turn now
Mmmm gotta try a little harder
It could be sweet
Like a long forgotten dream
And we don't need them to cast the fate we have
Love don't always shine thru
Cos I don't wanna lose
What we had last time your leaving this life ain't fair
You don't get something for nothing, turn now
Mmmm gotta try a little harder
It could be sweet.....
But the thoughts we try to deny
Take a toll upon our lives
We struggle on in depths of pride
Tangled up in single minds
Cos I don't wanna lose
What we had last time your leaving this life ain't fair
You don't get something for nothing, turn back
Mmmm gotta try a little harder
Cos I don't wanna lose
What we had last time your leaving this life ain't fair
You don't get something for nothing, turn back
Mmmm gotta try a little harder
It could be sweet
That voice - Nice!
Escaped the net in '45, hiding out in South America
Protected by money and powerful friends
Hoping the world has forgotten by now
All the things that you did in the Nazi Death camps
The people that you tortured and killed
You can live you life in expectant fear
Sure some day you'll be made to pay
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the b@stard
Man walks over dressed in flashy clothes
With an empty heart and a head full of money
Puts his arm around the lad of fifteen years
Talks sort of close like a long-lost brother
"It's really cool, all the pop stars do
If you don't try a little you'd really be a fool
Tell you what I'll do, I'll make the first one free
And when you want some more just come back to me"
[Alternative version of second verse:]
Loading up the barrels at the warehouse gates
Men in overalls on double rates
Put the stuff in the river and away for a beer
Don't worry too much, they don't live around here
And the poison seeps into every pore
Every child's eyes, every innocent's sore
Everybody knows behind the closed doors
Kick down the doors, kick down the doors
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the b@stard
Top-dog fascist gets the boys in the corner
Plants poison where there was just confusion
Walks away scot-free and laughing
Rides on the tide as the cancer grows
And the business man on corruption charges
With millions of dollars in dirty money
Gets a thousand pound fine after months in court
While the lawyers get fat and the law gets bought
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the b@stard
NMA-
Look out of your windows, watch the skies
Read all the instructions with bright blue eyes
We're W.A.S.Ps, proud American sons
We know how to clean our teeth and how to strip down a gun
We're the 51st state of America
Our star-spangled Union Jack flutters so proud
Over the dancing heads of the merry patriotic crowd
Tip your hat to the Yankee conqueror
We've got no reds under the bed with guns under our pillows
We're the 51st state of America
Here in the land of opportunity, watch us revel in our liberty
You can say what you like but it doesn't change anything
Because the corridors of power are an ocean away
We're the 51st state of America
Farewell to Prince's Landing Stage
River Mersey, fare thee well
I am bound for California
A place I know right well
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling when I think of thee
I'm bound off for California
By the way of stormy Cape Horn
And I'm bound to write you a letter, love
When I am homeward bound
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling when I think of thee
I have signed on a Yankee Clipper ship
Davy Crockett is her name
And Burgess is the Captain of her
And they say she's a floating Hell
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling when I think of thee
I have shipped with Burgess once before
And I think I know him well
If a man's a seaman, he can get along
If not, then he's sure in Hell
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling when I think of thee
Farewell to lower Frederick Street
Ensign Terrace and Park Lane
For I think it will be a long, long time
Before I see you again
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling when I think of thee
Oh the sun is on the harbour, love
And I wish I could remain
For I know it will be a long, long time
Till I see you again
So fare thee well, my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But ald Ireland when I think of thee ;)
The island it is silent now
But the ghosts still haunt the waves
And the torch lights up a famished man
Who fortune could not save
Did you work upon the railroad
Did you rid the streets of crime
Were your dollars from the white house
Were they from the five and dime
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you
And did they still make you cry
Did you count the months and years
Or did your teardrops quickly dry
Ah, no, says he, 'twas not to be
On a coffin ship I came here
And I never even got so far
That they could change my name
Thousands are sailing
Across the western ocean
To a land of opportunity
That some of them will never see
Fortune prevailing
Across the western ocean
Their bellies full
Their spirits free
They'll break the chains of poverty
And they'll dance
In Manhattan's desert twilight
In the death of afternoon
We stepped hand in hand on Broadway
Like the first man on the moon
And "The Blackbird" broke the silence
As you whistled it so sweet
And in Brendan Behan's footsteps
I danced up and down the street
Then we said goodnight to Broadway
Giving it our best regards
Tipped our hats to Mister Cohan
Dear old Times Square's favorite bard
Then we raised a glass to JFK
And a dozen more besides
When I got back to my empty room
I suppose I must have cried
Thousands are sailing
Again across the ocean
Where the hand of opportunity
Draws tickets in a lottery
Postcards we're mailing
Of sky-blue skies and oceans
From rooms the daylight never sees
Where lights don't glow on Christmas trees
But we dance to the music
And we dance
Thousands are sailing
Across the western ocean
Where the hand of opportunity
Draws tickets in a lottery
Where e'er we go, we celebrate
The land that makes us refugees
From fear of Priests with empty plates
From guilt and weeping effigies
And we dance..
The Pogues
I lost the sacred feeling but I
Made a couple of friends and now
Our things have never looked so good
Our things have never been so clear
And now I'm alone with you
I'm always up all night
And I get music running in my head
And I, I lose the strength to fight
Cause I, I've been up all night
She's been up all night
We're, we're just up all night
This town is for the counterfeit dreamers
And maybe I'm one too, well I
I keep my hand behind my back when I
I don't know what else to do
The streets that I grew up in, they might mean
Nothing to you, but I
I'll show you where I come from if you please
Just tell me what I'm supposed to do
Cause I, I've been up all night
She's been up all night
We're, we're just up all night
That sweet and sacred feeling you know
Will never last long
Every time you turn around you'll see
One more part of you, yes it's gone
I need your spirit darling
And lend me your helping hand, and I
I'll meet you in the morning
When I've broken up the band
Cause I've been up all night
She's been up all night
We're, we're just up all night
And I've been up all night
She's been up all night
We're, we're just up all night
I've been up all night...
RAZORLIGHT- don't get me started on Song definitions ;)
Sinead anyone?
Around the seven seas I have roamed,
and there's many, many a place I call home,
When at last I quit the sea, I know where I want to be;
I want to be down where old Maggie roams.
I've got them Liverpool blues.
I've got the high-down low-down mean old Liverpool Blues.
Don't want to go down the coast of Spain,
I like Liverpool in the rain.
Don't want to go where there's castanets ringing;
Give me Sunday morning in the old pub singing.
I've got them Liverpool blues, Blues I hope I never lose
Bacon and beans is the cowboys dish
Give me Sunday morning with the ald salt fish, because.
I've got them Liverpool blues
I've got them Liverpool blues
I got the hey Joe, What do you know, mean old Liverpool Blues.
Don't want to go down to Tennessee,
Scottie Road is good enough for me,
Don't want to go where there's banjos strumming
Give me Paddy's Market with the two a penny, lemons.
I've got them Liverpool blues, Blues I hope I never lose
Bacon and beans is the cowboys dish, but.............
Give me Sunday morning with the old salt fish, because,
I've got them Liverpool blues.
Svetlana sucks lemons across from me,
and I am progressing abominably.
And I do not know my own way to the sea
but the saltiest sea knows its own way to me.
The city that turns, turns protracted and slow
and I find myself toeing th e embarcadero
and I find myself knowing the things that I knew
which is all that you can know on this side of the blue
And Jamie has eyes black and shiny as boots
and they march at you, two-by-two ray-loo ray -loo
when she looks at you, you know she's nowhere near through,it's the kindest heart beating this side of the blue.
And the signifieds butt heads with the signifiers,
and we all fall down slack jawed to marvel at words,
While across the sky sheet the impossible birds,
in a steady, illiterate movement homewards.
And Gabriel stands beneath forest and moon.
See them rattle and boon, see them shake, and see them loom.
See him fashion a cap from a page of Camus, see him navigate deftly this side of the blue.
And the rest of our lives will the moments accrue
when the shape of their goneness will flare up anew.
hen we do what we have to do ray-loo ray -loo
which is all you can do on this side of the blue.
The Litebrite's now black and white, 'Cause they took apart a picture that wasn't right, Pitch burning on a shining sheet, The only maker that you'd want to meet.
A dying man in a living room, Whose shadow paces the floor ,He’ll take you out any open door
This is not my life ,It's just a fond farewell to a friend
It's not what i'm like, It's just a fond farewell to a friend
Who couldn't get things right, A Fond farewell to a friend
He said really I just wanna dance, Good and evil matched perfect it's a great romance. I can deal with some psychic pain, If it'll slow down my higher brain. Veins full of disappearing ink, Vomiting in the kitchen sink disconnecting from the missing link
This is not my life ,It's just a fond farewell to a friend
It's not what i'm like, It's just a fond farewell to a friend
Who couldn't get things right, A Fond farewell to a friend
I see you're leaving me and taking up with the enemy
The cold comfort of the in between, A little less than a human being, A little less than a happy high, A little less than a suicide. The only things that you really tried
This is not my life ,It's just a fond farewell to a friend
It's not what i'm like, It's just a fond farewell to a friend
Who couldn't get things right, A Fond farewell to a friend
Elliot Smith.
Are you ready for the time of your life
It's time to stand up and fight
(It's alright) It's alright (It's alright, it's alright)
Hand in hand we'll take a caravan
To the motherland
One by one we're gonna stand with the pride
One that can't be denied
(Stand up, stand up, stand up, stand up)
From the highest mountain, and valley low
We'll join together, with hearts of gold
Now the children of the world can see
There's a better way for us to be
The place where mankind was born
Is so neglected and torn... torn apart
Every woman, every man
Join the caravan of love (Stand up, stand up, stand up)
Everybody take a stand
Join the caravan of love
I'm your brother
I'm your brother, don't you know
I'm your brother
I'm your brother, don't you know
We'll be living in a world of peace
In a day when everyone is free
We'll bring the young and the old
Won't you let your love flow from your heart
Every woman, every man
Join the caravan of love (Stand up, stand up, stand up)
Everybody take a stand
Join the caravan of love
I'm your brother
I'm your brother, don't you know
I'm your brother
I'm your brother, don't you know
Now the children of the world can see
There's a better for us to be
The place where mankind was born
Is so neglected and torn... torn apart
Every woman, every man
Join the caravan of love (Stand up, stand up, stand up)
Everybody take a stand
Join the caravan of love
Are you ready for the time of your life
(Are you ready, are you ready)
Are you ready for the time of your life
(Are you ready, are you ready)
Come go with me
(Are you ready, are you ready)
Come go with me
(Are you ready, are you ready)
Every woman, every man
Join the caravan of love (Are you ready, are you ready)
Everybody take a stand
Join the caravan of love (Are you ready, are you ready)
Every woman, every man
Join the caravan of love (Are you ready, are you ready)
Everybody take a stand
Join the caravan of love (Are you ready, are you ready)
The Housemartins ;)
This little gem from Pink Floyd has been living in my head all weekend!!
High Hopes
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

Tom McRae-Draw Down The Stars
Coming back to the city
That I never quite leave
Picture you be the ocean
Picture me coughing into my sleeve
Like a snake eating snake you confuse me
Who's killer ? Who's captive ? Who's free ?
In a city that kills by constriction
Throw your streets around me and squeeze
And draw down the stars
Draw down the stars
What's in your heart?
They smiled so much and waved their flags
As she saluted to the military band
Most of the people failed to see
She had a broken bottle in the other hand
And she took them by surprise
When she took them by the throat
And said my friend youre not allowed to vote
But they shook it all off
With a nervous laugh and cough
Next time, she said Ill let those people choke
The people who grinned themselves to death
Smiled so much they failed to take a breath
And even when their kids were starving
They all thought the queen was charming
She polished all upon the wall
And ran her hands right through her hair
So if the lady took the time to call
All the houses on the street would not compare
And she thought it really funny
That she hadnt any money
But those she looked up to, they had
But they shook it all off
With a nervous laugh and cough
And when they took her riches it was sad
The people who grinned themselves to death
Smiled so much they failed to take a breath
And even when their kids were starving
They all thought the queen was charming

'The Luck of the Irish' - John Lennon
If you had the luck of the Irish
You'd be sorry and wish you were dead
You should have the luck of the Irish
And you'd wish you was English instead!
A thousand years of torture and hunger
Drove the people away from their land
A land full of beauty and wonder
Was raped by the British brigands! Godd*mn! Godd*mn!
If you could keep voices like flowers
There'd be shamrock all over the world
If you could drink dreams like Irish streams
Then the world would be high as the mountain of morn
In the 'Pool they told us the story
How the English divided the land
Of the pain, the death and the glory
And the poets of auld Eireland
If we could make chains with the morning dew
The world would be like Galway Bay
Let's walk over rainbows like leprechauns
The world would be one big Blarney stone
Why the hell are the English there anyway?
As they kill with God on their side
Blame it all on the kids the IRA
As the b*stards commit genocide! Aye! Aye! Genocide!
If you had the luck of the Irish
You'd be sorry and wish you was dead
You should have the luck of the Irish
And you'd wish you was English instead!
Yes you'd wish you was English instead!
Oh, Peggy Gordon you are my darling
Come sit you down upon my knee
Come tell to me the very reason
Why I am slighted so by thee
I'm so in love I can't deny it
My heart lies smothered in my breast
It's not for you to let the world know it
A troubled mind can know no rest
I did put my head to a cask of brandy
It was my fancy I do declare
For when I'm drinking I am thinking
And wishing Peggy Gordon was here
I wish I was away in Ingo
Far across the briny sea
Sailing o'er the deepest ocean
Where love nor care never bother me
I wish I was in some lonesome valley
Where womankind can not be found
Where the pretty small birds do change their voices
And every moment a different sound
Oh, Peggy Gordon you are my darling
Come sit you down upon my knee
Come tell to me the very reason
Why I am slighted so by thee
Farewell to you, my own true love,
I am going far, far away
I am bound for California,
And I know that I'll return someday
So fare thee well, my own true love,
For when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
But ald Ireland when I think of thee
I have shipped on a Yankee sailing ship,
Davy Crockett is her name,
And her Captain's name was Burgess,
And they say that she's a floating hell
So fare thee well, my own true love,
For when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
But ald Ireland when I think of thee
Oh the sun is on the harbour, love,
And I wish that I could remain,
For I know that it will be a long, long time,
Before I see you again
So fare thee well, my own true love,
For when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me,
But ald Ireland when I think of thee
Der Pogues
This is an English Ballad popular also in Ireland. It is a song of lament at having to emigrate to America and leave the place of our birth and loved ones. Originally collected from **** Maitland, ex-seaman, by W M Doerflinger, who published text and tune in "Shantymen And Shantyboys". Ewan MacColl was instrumental in popularising this song on the folk scene
O me name is Joe McDonnell
from Belfast town I came
That city I will never see again
For in the town of Belfast
I spent many happy days
I love that town in oh so many ways
For it's there I spent my childhood
and found for me a wife
I then set out to make for her a life
But all my young ambitions
met with bitterness and hate
I soon found myself inside a prison gate
And you dare to call me a terrorist
while you looked down your gun
When I think of all the deeds that you had done
You had plundered many nations divided many lands
You had terrorised their peoples you ruled with an iron hand.
And you brought this reign of terror to my land
Through those many months internment
In the Maidstone and the Maze
I thought about my land throughout those days
Why my country was divided,
why I was now in jail
Imprisoned without crime or without trial
And though I love my country
I am not a bitter man
I've seen cruelty and injustice at first hand
So then one fateful morning
I shook bold freedom's hand
For right or wrong I'd try to free my land
And you dare to call me a terrorist
while you looked down your gun
When I think of all the deeds that you had done
You had plundered many nations divided many lands
You had terrorised their peoples you ruled with an iron hand.
And you brought this reign of terror to my land
Then one cold October morning
trapped in a lion's den
I found myself in prison once again
I was committed to the H-blocks
for fourteen years or more
On the Blanket the conditions they were poor
Then a hunger strike we did commence
for the dignity of man
But it seemed to me that no one gave a ****
But now, I'm a saddened man
I've watched my comrades die
If only people cared or wondered why
And you dare to call me a terrorist
while you looked down your gun
When I think of all the deeds that you had done
You had plundered many nations divided many lands
You had terrorised their peoples you ruled with an iron hand.
And you brought this reign of terror to my land
May God shine on you Bobby Sands
for the courage you have shown
May your glory and your fame be widely known
And brave Francis Hughes and Ray McCreesh
who died unselfishly
And Patsy O Hara and the next in line is me
And those who lie behind me
may your courage be the same
And I pray to God our lifes were not in vain
Ah but sad and bitter
was the year of 1981
For everything I've lost and nothing's won.
peace of the glancing, dancing waves
peace of the white sands
peace of iona
peace of the singing wind
peace of the stones
peace of iona
peace of the crying gulls
peace of the humming bees
peace of the noontime stillness
peace of the dreaming hills
peace of the breath of angels
peace of iona
peace of the saints and seekers
peace of the monks and druids
peace of the resting place of kings
peace of the ruins
peace of doves in the belltower
peace of iona
peace of the glad heart
peace of the rested mind
peace of my lover's pots and potions
peace of her healing hands
peace of her lazy laughter
peace of iona
peace of the unseen
peace of the spirit
peace of iona
peace of the unseen
peace of the spirit
peace of iona

I like this one from the Proclaimers. Could easily be twisted to fit Liverpool.
Yes I know you're right
I see it in your fierce eyes
But me I've never thought straight
Since the day I had the first doubt
Yes I know you're right
And I'll back you to a point pal
But I'll never be constrained
By another man's ideas now
I spent too long on this road
Looking for the answers
But Poverty and Failure
Aren't what I'm after
I painted "Fight" on factories
But they closed the factory down pal
I want to find out where the Heart's gone
Gonna find out where the nerves gone
What do you do
When democracy fails you
What do you do
When the rest can't see its true?
Pat votes the Scots way
Just like her mother
But South always takes all
Just like her brother
The next time she might vote
So might the others
But times running out pal
Cause they're giving up in numbers
What do you do
When Democracy's all through
What do you do
When minority means you?
RIOT VAN
Up rolled the riot van
And sparked excitement in the boys
But the policemen look annoyed
Perhaps these are ones they should avoid
They got a chase last night from men with truncheon’s dressed in hats
They didn’t do that much wrong, still ran away though for the laugh
“Please just stop talking
Because they won’t find us if you do
Oh those silly boys in blue
Well they won’t catch me and you”
“Have you been drinking son, you don’t look old enough to me”
“I’m sorry officer is there a certain age you’re supposed to be?… nobody told me”
Up rolled the riot van
And these lads just wind the coppers up
Ask why they don’t catch proper crooks
Get their address and their name’s took
But they couldn’t care less
He got thrown in the riot van
And all the coppers kicked him in
And there was no way he could win
Just had to take it on the chin

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN
Who's that girl there?
I wonder what went wrong
So that she had to roam the streets
She dunt do major credit cards
I doubt she does receipts
It's all not quite legitimate
And what a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes,
That he's got a driving ban
Amongst some other offences
And I've seen him with girls of the night
And he told Roxanne to put on her red light
It’s all infected but he'll be alright
Cause he's a scumbag, don't you know
I said he's a scumbag, don't you know!
Although you're trying not to listen
Overt your eyes and staring at the ground
She makes a subtle proposition
“Sorry love I'll have to turn you down”
He must be up to something
What are the chances sure it’s more than likely
I've got a feeling in my stomach
I start to wonder what his story might be
They said it changes when the sun goes down
Around here
Look here comes a Ford Mondeo
Isn't he Mister Inconspicuous?
And he don't have to say 'owt
She’s in the stance ready to get picked up
Bet she's delighted when she sees him
Pulling in and giving her the eye
Because she must be ****ing freezing
Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky
it doesn't stop in the winter, no
Around here
They said it changes when the sun goes down
Over the river going out of town
What a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes that he's got a nasty plan
I hope you're not involved at all
A CERTAIN ROMANCE
Will oh they might wear classic Reeboks
Or knackered Converse
Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks
But all of that's what the point is not
The point's that there isn’t no romance around there
And there's the truth that they can't see
They'd probably like to throw a punch at me
And if you could only see them, then you would agree
Agree that there isn’t no romance around there
it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell them if you like
We'll tell them all tonight
They'll never listen
Cause their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
Over there there's broken bones
There's only music, so that there's new ringtones
And it doesn’t take no Sherlock Holmes
To see it's a little different around here
Don't get me wrong though there's boys in bands
And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands
And just cause he's had a couple of cans
He thinks it's alright to act like a ****head
Well over there there's friends of mine
What can I say, I've known them for a long long time
And they might overstep the line
But you just cannot get angry in the same way
MARDY BUM
Now then Mardy Bum
I see your frown
And it's like looking down the barrel of a gun
And it goes off
And out come all these words
Oh there's a very pleasant side to you
A side I much prefer
It's one that laughs and jokes around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on
Well now then Mardy Bum
Oh I'm in trouble again, aren't I?
I thought as much
Cause you turned over there
Pulling that silent disappointment face
The one that I can't bear
Can't we laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on
Yeah I'm sorry I was late
Well I missed the train
And then the traffic was a state
And I can't be arsed to carry on in this debate
That reoccurs, oh when you say I don't care
Well of course I do, yeah I clearly do!
So laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Still it's right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on
Great album just screams out the speakers
:D they're like a funky punky version of the Smiths :D
i-ah
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
my images reflect in the enemies eye
and his images reflect in mine the same time
i-ah, i-ah
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
right here's where the end gon' start at
conflict, contact, combat
fighters stand where the land is marked at
settle the dispute about who the livliest
three word answer
whoever survive this
only one of us can ride forever
so you and i cant ride together
can't live or can't die together
all we can do is collide together
so i skillfully apply the pressure
won't stop until i'm forever... one
a door step where death never come
spread across time til my time never done
and i'm never done
walk tall, why ever run?
when they move if i ever come
bad man never fret the war, i tell'em come
general we have the stock, the mad fire burn
i-ah
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
my images reflect in the enemies eye
and his images reflect in mine the same time
i-ya, i-ya
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
survive, (survive), survive, (survive), etc
reign supreme in your U. N. I.
V. E. R. S. E. with the sharpness
narrow row building no space for partners
no space for drivers, no space for walkers
no space regardless
your on my path then get off it
hardheaded and unresponsive
get they lives put on target with harshness
come with the cannons sparkin' they darken
who am i? one man squadron
most of the fire this time that'd snatch your tomorrow
the thousand yard spear that'll pierce through your armor
you can get it on right now if you want to
but when ya front nine get marched through
i warned you
you know who forever belong to
i-ah, i-ah
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
my images reflect in the enemies eye
and his images reflect in mine the same time
i-ah, i-ah
i against i
flesh of my flesh
and mind of my mind
two of a kind but one won't survive
my images reflect in the enemies eye
and his images reflect in mine, survive

Old pirates, yes, they rob i;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took i
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the and of the almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ooh!
Some say its just a part of it:
Weve got to fulfil de book.
Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Wo! have no fear for atomic energy,

Is this too cheesy, 'cos I love it...
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are
Come on baby... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby I'm your man...
Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity...
Romeo and Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday... Like Romeo and
Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday... Redefine
happiness
Another 40,000 coming everyday...We can be like
they are
Come on baby... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby I'm your man...
Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear we couldn't go on
The door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared
Saying don't be afraid
Come on baby... And we had no fear
And we ran to him... Then we started to fly
We looked backward and said goodbye
We had become like they are
We had taken his hand
We had become like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
It's good to see all the New Model Army quotes earlier as well :)
Ch: No, not for one second did you look behind you
As you were walking away
Never once did you wish any of us well
Those who had chosen to stay
And if that's what it takes to make it
In the place that you live today
Then I guess you'll never read these letters that I send
From the valleys of the green and the grey

Raw Melody Men - such a live album had the best version of Green and Grey.
How about Whirlwind by the same band
I felt a shiver in the heat-haze and the waiting time is over
Strange tongues on the airwaves as the voices call from distant lands
I saw which was the winning side but still I joined the other
And I'm in love with every strange unfolding day
As the storm begins to break cover
So let the whirlwind blow
through the ice, the melting snows
across the freezing skies and the tiny lights below
And so we shutter up the doorways as the ripples move towards us
For a moment stop breathing - She wakes and stirs beneath our feet
The Order try to stand their ground, while every battlefront is shifting
They still believe that they can hold the reins
But then they've got no sense of history
So let the whirlwind blow
through the ice, the melting snows
across the freezing skies and the tiny lights below
the waters seething, bubbling out of control
come on take my hand and we'll dive
A television blares in an empty room
The poisoned waters glisten
Goliath staggers round in a punch-drunk daze
Doesn't understand what hit him
I saw which was the winning side but still I joined the other
And I'm in love with every strange unfolding day
As the storm begins to break cover
Let the whirlwind blow
through the ice, the melting snows
across the freezing skies and the tiny lights below
the waters seething, out of control
we watch the oceans rise and the governments start to fall
across the freezing skies until the lights go out below

All kids should be made to listen to this and remember the words:
King Heroin
by James Brown
Ladies and Gentlemen
Fellow Americans
Lady Americans
This is James Brown
I wanna talk to you about one of our
Most deadly
Killers in the country today
I had a dream the other night, and I
Was sittin' in my living room
Dozed off to sleep
So I start to dreamin'
I dreamed I walked in a place and
I saw a real strange, weird object
Standin' up talkin' to the people
And I found out it was Heroin
That deadly drug that go in your veins
He says:
I came to this country without a passport
Ever since then I've been hunted and sought
My little white grains are nothin' but waste
Soft and deadly and bitter to taste
I'm a world of power and all know it's true
Use me once and you'll know it, too
I can make a mere schoolboy forget his books
I can make a world-famous beauty neglect her looks
I can make a good man forsake his wife
Send a greedy man to prison for the rest of his life
I can make a man forsake his country and flag
Make a girl sell her body for a five-dollar bag
Some think my adventure's a joy and a thrill
But I'll put a gun in your hand and make you kill
In cellophane bags I've found my way
To heads of state and children at play
I'm financed in China, ran in Japan
I'm respected in Turkey and I'm legal in Siam
I take my addicts and make 'em steal, borrow, beg
Then they search for a vein in their arm or their leg
So, be you Italian, Jewish, Black or Mex
I can make the most virile of men forget their sex
So now, no, my man, you must (you know) do your best
To keep up your habit until your arrest
Now the police have taken you from under my wing
Do you think they dare defy me, I who am king?
Now, you must lie in that county jail
Where I can't get to you by visit or mail
So squirm -- with discomfort -- wiggle and cough (hack!)
Six days of madness, hah! You might throw me off
Curse me in name! Defy me in speech!
But you'd pick me up right now if I were in your reach
All through your sentence you've become resolved to your fate
Hear now! young man and woman, I'll be waitin' at the gate
Don't be afraid, don't run! I'm not chased
Sure my name is Heroin! You'll be back for a taste
Behold, you're hooked!
Your foot is in the stirrup
And make -- haste!
Mount the steed!
And ride him well
For the white horse of heroin
Will ride you to Hell!
To Hell!
Will ride you to Hell!
Until you are dead!
Dead, brother! Dead!
This is a revolution of the mind
Get your mind together
And get away from drugs!
