Motion pictures

A lot of bands arrive full of promise. A few go on to achieve greatness. Most are never heard of again. But just occasionally, a band appears with a focus and a force so powerful that it seems they've emerged fully-formed and you wonder where such startling originali talent can have been hiding.

A mix of hazy psychedelia, ethereal beauty and breathtaking harmonies,
Motion Pictures' debut arrived trailing clouds of glory in 2005. Released on their own label, the sublime lead track My Queen, Your Dream received enthusiastic airplay on Radios One and Two from the likes of Zane Lowe and Mark Radcliffe. Although the album's outlook was entirely contemporary, it shared a spirit of adventure with that earlier era, as auto-harps, an Indian sarod and African and Arabic percussion were added to the guitar-bass-drums line-up - all played, incidentally, by the band themselves, rather than raped and pillaged from samples.

In late 2005, they began sessions at Toe Rag studios in East London with producer Liam Watson. Famous for it’s authentic, vintage recording gear (used most famously by the White Stripes), the studio perfectly suited the Motion Pictures recording philosophy.

Brilliantly produced by Watson, their second album dramatically expands the horizons of their debut, mixing melancholic English psychedelia with the sunshine jangle of America’s west coast. The rare, hazy beauty of their first album is still present. Yet the sound is brighter and more textured the songs more dynamic and the rhythms sharper.

Their individuality, they feel, has a lot to do with their insular
Environment, which allows the island's bands to develop their own sound away from the volatile trends ands passing fashions of the London-based Music industry.

It means that if you're after for the sleazy synths and jerky, electro
Rhythms that seem to be this week's vogue, then you're looking in the wrong place. If, on the other hand, you love the time-honored virtues of real music played with honesty and passion, then you should book a seat for Motion Pictures' next production now.

Minotaurs

‘Sunshine fried folk-pop from the seaside resort of south shields, combining echoes of the flaming lips, Love and the Beta Band- Minotaurs are quite simply brilliant’

- NME April 2006

The band are leading the charge for the rebirth of the song, with their own off-skew arrangements, creating quiet, slow burning pop anthem-classics in waiting.

Live the band has an electric edge and Minotaurs have a fast growing reputation for amazing shows, with all six band members swapping instruments to create a luscious wide-screen spectrum of sound.

Solar x

Roman Belavkin, Solar X,

He has been described by The Face magazine as "a stereotypical Russian genius" for apart from being Russia's own "Aphex without a tank" (De-Bug)

Roman is the founder of the Russian Art-Tek records label and he has been named by the local press as the most influential person in modern Russian electronic music.

.In the early 90-es, he studied physics and mathematics at the Moscow State University, and he did not take his musical hobby seriously until 1992 when after a terrible car accident he had to spend two years imprisoned in his flat. During this period Roman adapted his computer and Soviet analogue synthesisers, and recorded his first full-length album.

His second album, X-rated, employed everything from speedy robodisco to funkified gabba, all wrapped in gorgeous melodies.

It was re-released in 1997, and it made The Wire to "pronounce the former Soviet Union a goldmine of undiscovered talent".

Roman is currently based in London conducting research in cognitive science and composing new kind of music which he calls "body breaking mind control".
