I WAS disturbed and disappointed to read the letter in your paper from the Secretary of the Wincham Preservation Society (Daily Post, May 6) about their scrapping of the vessel Wincham.

I think that whilst many have misgivings under the direction in which National Museums Merseyside are going, it does look as though the Wincham Preservation Society is the sinner here.

Other groups faced with a similar predicament whould have attempted fund raising via the Nautical Press as well as through a public appeal before throwing the towel in.

It is the whole timescale of events that has stunned people.

Given the small size of this vessel it would have not been a problem to store her ashore if there was concern for her hull, until funds could be raised.
