Liverpool is the wrong party colour locally. Red in Westminster, yellow locally. The local Lib-Dems have been a washout with scandal and ineptitude. The Brunswick Quay Tower is indicative of that. If they had initially said yes, the tower would have been built a few years ago, before any Credit Crunch. The rest of the country looks on and thinks the city is mad. No direction, wandering and arguing at every point.

London does not want a large city competing with London. The slow rape of Liverpool and the country moving to south east centric proved that. London will boost Manchester. When it gets too big/powerful/influential, then they will move some matters to Liverpool. Divide and rule.

Liverpool historically has been a commercial city while Manchester, an industrial city, is being boosted to a commercial city. It just does not follow. The government is talking about increasing the manufacturing sector - that is Manchester's field. Reversing the roles of the cities is for the benefit of London of course.
