Hello! hmtmaj.
Yes you are right, this is about the fourth year on the trot that money has supposed to be forthcoming. It never gets anywhere, although they can always find funds for Sefton and Colderstones parks.
One council member suggests there is a north south divide in Liverpool, I have said this for quite some time and it makes a change to see someone else is of a like mind.
They talk of Millions of pounds to improve the parks. All that is needed is a couple of decent gardeners to look after the park on a daily basis. a couple of dozen more seats with a waste bin along side each one, and I dread to suggest, a few bedding plants in the spring!

In it's heyday, this was and I think, still is a grand old park.
The buildings surrounding it ( like Sefton park ) must have been a sight when first built. I've seen some superb pics, when it was in it's prime.
I remember going to the fair's they had on there and the firework displays. Like you say, a little cosmetic makeover and it would be back to it's best. It just seems a little bare.

Nice shots Samp. My own childhood memories were of a rather dismal park surrounded by unattractive houses like those on Judges Drive, unlike Calderstones & Sefton parks that were always a mass of colour in Summer. Your bright shots are delightful, whilst the shot of the Orphanage is quite evocative.
Some interesting postcards of Newsham Park and area!

In the photo of the fountain it says one of the fountains, on an old map of 1906 it shows several around the area of Gardeners drive, which is the far side of the park from West Derby Rd.
Some more views of Newsham Park And one of Larkhill park.

Love the pictures of Newsham Park, I was there the other day and I was going to take a picture of the old orphanage/hospital and I noticed in tonight?s echo that there is a campaign by the Newsham Community Association to save the building. Shame to see such a fine building decaying.
Here?s a pic (not mine)

Feel free Diane, I just like the shapes of the trees covered in snow.

First one taken a week ago, very frosty morning.
The second one is the same scene this morning taken with the others.

I chose the second from the left! It looks really nice larger!
A few more to be going on with!
I'm running out of scenes for this park, I must try elsewhere.
