I am probably being really dim but - if you buy an X-box or Playstation in the States will it work in this country and will UK games work on them? My lad wants to buy one on his hols.

America uses NTSC format and in Europe PAL TV standard. The games may work in both 'territories'.

*update. My friend Hoolak has just given me this advice:

The proper answer is no.

We in UK & Europe have PAL format (50Hz) and them U.S fellas have NTSC (60Hz), as do the far east.

However, there are ways to get around this. The hardcore will get their console modified with a chip/switch, but I'd say the safest way is to get one of the converter disc like Action Replay (I think it's action replay anyway).

Basically, you insert this special disc first and then it will ask you to then insert the import game (in this case it will be a UK PAL game).
This might mean you'll need a U.S version of this special disc too.
I will do a little research for you on it tho.

You'll also probably need a Stepdown converter for the mains as the U.S have diffrent voltage for power supply.

I have my UK PS2 modded so I can play import games (US and JAP).

Personally, I wouldnt buy a console out there.

Hop this helps :snf (41):

Thanks Hoolak
