Hi all.
I'm new to this Forum, but I need some advice/help if you don't mind.
I take a lot of Photographs in and around Liverpool, and if possible, I would like to post some on here. But I need to know how do I go about getting copyright for my Photies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
A simple 'watermark' would be advisable for starters, like this image here:

and

Both are photographers and have many pics on here.

You need to open the images up in an image editing program and put text on top.

'Welcome'! Wolfie, Picasa 3 on Google is a free download, and has the ability to add text to your photo's, give it a try! Cheers:PDT11

In a nutshell.
Only post photos which you don't mind being stolen.
These watermarks are on a separate level and can be removed by people in the know.
On the other hand, your camera will record the date and time your photo was taken, so if it is stolen you can prove it's yours.
But the problem is, how do you know somebody is using your photo on their site?
Sorry to be so pessimistic.

Why copyright? I have taken over 3000 all of them online, anyone is free to use them. If someone finds pleasure in them then im happy. Im not David Baily ( who,s he :unibrow: ) I enjoy photos and i love the way we can share them on the internet.
Maybe I should stick a SPIKE through mine

You keep going Spike. Am with you on that. Why do people put copyright when posting them on the net ? It is very easy to remove the Copyright logo.
Besides,if you had a pic you thought was "really good" then why put it on the internet when you know it will get copied.
Do people actually think they have the best pics when they add a copyright or is it because they feel so important. :PDT10
I can clearly understand the reasons behind copyright but when you are just the average guy in the street taking pics and not a PROFFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER who makes his living that way then I think you're wasting time. Especially when there's the likes of me who will just copy any pic I like !!:PDT11

Each to there own John.
Copyright to me, means a fair amount, seeing as I've produced a website on Childwall with some heavily researched pictures and information, mostly from a personal collection.
The only time I see sense with copyright is when something is
a, fairly old so you can't just go out and take the same picture again.
b, an item (text/picture) worth a bit of money.
I see no point in going mad and copyrighting any other recent pictures I have done because jo bloggs can stand in exactly the same spot, and take exactly the same picture.
Copyright is only ever worth a pinch of salt when it is used in a publication - which is then given more grounds for copyright claim, than if you bunged someone else's picture on your website - as that can be removed at anytime.
In short, anything you put on the net will be nicked by the magpies straight away no matter what you do.

If you take a photo with a camera or mobile phone, copyright is automatically yours.
I've learnt that there are people who demand "More, more" photos, but never post any of theirs.
Assuming that they even bother to take any.
I mean take photos with a camera, not steal them from the Internet.
Yes, most of us who post (or used to post) are amateurs, but we'd still like to be asked before somebody uses our photos on their site.
Especially when the photos show buildings that have been demolished.
