LIVERPOOL?S alley gating programme is supported by 99% of residents in the areas where it is introduced. Read (http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2009/03/23/99-of-residents-in-liverpool-support-alley-gates-100252-23209179/)
What do you think?
I think there ok and guess they have to be there for security but builders and students can't stop asking to use our keys for them since they won't get the lazy landlords to give them one.

Couldn't imagine being without them now, although it is a bit of pain having to take the long way around somewhere that used to have a short cut.
Perfect example being the short cut down Castlewood rd from Belmont rd, across Richmond park and down to Lower Breck rd. You can no longer do this 5 minute walk, you now have to take the long way around and take twice as long.
Also, Breckside Park - you used to be able to approach it from all different ways. Residents living right by the playing field would able to just walk straight on, but now the side streets which back onto it have been alleygated, so if you want to use the recreational space you have to walk twice the distance to get onto the field.
Alleygates in general are ok and we are used to having them now.

I think the fact that we need alley gates is a sad indictment of the society that we now live in. I live in a supposed 'regeneration' area and the majority of improvements that have been made in the area such as alleygating, employing street wardens, upgrading street lighting, installing CCTV cameras and speed humps in roads, etc. have been aimed at curtailing anti-social behaviour of one sort or another. It's a shame that so much money has had to be spent in this way.
Shame the street wardens wouldn't be like Mad Max Mel Gibson then scallies wouldn't mess with them.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

.. and to add to my previous post:
Like some of the Yo members here, the people who still have an interest in the Wallace murder can now no longer do the 'Wallace walk' down from Belmont rd to Wolverton st.
All shortcut routes are blocked.
