FIRE crews are battling a severe blaze in a residential area of Wavertree.
The derelict Churchills building, a disused former Conservative Club on Church Road, went up in flames at around 9.20pm this evening.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said it had sent six pumps and an aerial appliance to the scene to attempt to control the fire consuming the boarded up, single storey building.
It is believed a small number of people living close to the building have been evacuated as a precaution.
