Can anyone help?

My great grandfather attended this school, and I was wondering if anyone had heard of it? I can't seem to find any photographs of it, or information.

Any ideas? I would be very appreciative!

Hi minx
I am sure the school you are looking for is St Philomenas. Was his school near Sparrow Hall ?
If it is then it was demolished a while back. Houses built there.
Cheers and good luck:PDT11

I thought that too, but there was a Saint Philemon's in Toxteth.

There's only been one St Philemon's in Liverpool.
It's the one mentioned, in Windsor Street, Toxteth.
It had - and still has - a school, but the current church and school are not the original buildings.

Apart from the following, there seems to be no information about the school on the otherwise excellent Liverpool Schools web site

Thanks so much for your replies!

It is in Toxteth Park, that's where he lived - 42 Sussex Street and then 196 Faulkner Street. (If anyone has any photos of those streets I'd also be over the moon!)

He left in January 1893, aged 12.

He went on to study at the Liverpool School of Science, Technology and Art - does anyone know anything interesting about it? Does that still exist?

Thanks for the response and the luck - I'm going to need it I think!

Where would be the best place to find out what happened to the building? Would it have been renamed or demolished or bombed out I wonder.

Does anyone have any old maps of Liverpool it might appear on?

Thanks everyone :)

This is the caption with the picture on the earlier posting so yes it's gone.

''The original building in the picture is now demolished and modern housing occupies the site. A new church stands between Admiral Street and High Park Street.''
