Its the North Liverpool Academy opening September this year, to replace the old Breckfield and Anfield comps.

SteH, is quite right Brian, it is the construction of the North Liverpool Academy. Each time I pass the site it reminds me of a huge aircraft wreck and I couldn't resist posting the picture.

You can see it from the Wallasey Tunnel now...certainly different!
I wonder if this has been designed to be a place that will enthuse and inspire prospective students???
I havn't seen any flyers to that effect!
I'm winging one over to you right now.

Sunday morning rant.
The school should have been completed and opened 2 years ago, but for the protest and objections of a very small minority.
There has always been a school there - Breckfield, formerly John Hamilton.
A new academy was planned with the merging of 2 schools.
The Breckfield building was closed down for demolition and Breckfield pupils put in with Anfield school, Priory rd. This was meant to be a very short and temporary measure until the kids could all move into a new state of the art academy.
Instead, proceedings were held up by objections to the school encroaching on the 'Dixie Dean Playing Field'. - - - the counter argument is that there is tons of public green space just a hop over the road in Everton Park .. (just how much more grass do you need !! - the answer being that you can't play football on the hilly park)
The objection dragged on and on, while all the time the pupils and teachers have had to struggle on in cramped conditions and making do without the facilities they deserve.
Mobile classrooms had to be brought in to house the extra influx of students waiting for their new school.
They have had to make do with just some new windows and a few repairs to keep the school habitable.
My son will be going to the new academy in September - hopefully !
I am hoping that he gets to enjoy at least some time there before he leaves school. The kids should have well been in there and well established by now, but our kids are nearly ready for leaving school before they get to reap the benefits of the new facilities .. .. and all because of the stubborness of a minority protest :PDT_Xtremez_12: - it is not being realised or cared about that the local kids are missing out.
The pupils had a tour of the building the other week and my son says there are excellent views across city.
Hope to get to see for myself in the future.

campaigners wanted to declare the playing fields as a 'village green' .... LOL !
Living around here since I was born - I have never heard such nonsense !
since when did the area ever have a village green !! We are living in in the real world here and not a quaint English backwater

Got a letter from the school yesterday.
It may look like a crashed plane :) but here is a shortened update of what it will have:
'It is truly magnificent and has within it many wonderful educational and leisure facilities.
Outside it has, three full size football pitches, an enormous astroturf, a boxing club and a tennis court.
Inside it has a 30 station fitness suite and a sports hall.
It also has 13 science labs, a TV studio, a radio station, a dance studio, theatre, music studios, art rooms and media & film suites. a motor vehicle centre, fashion design studio, electronics room, and hairdressing & beauty salon.'
Sounds fantastic !
big difference from my school days ! :)

Anfield residents were told originally that the old North Liverpool Academy building on Priory rd, was to be demolished to make way for future LFC refurbishment plans. We'd heard of different plans like there was to be a hotel built there. The plans seem to have been shelved and we have heard no more about the building being demolished. The latest official news from our school newsletter is, that July 15th will be the last day at school for NLA pupils, and there will be a celebration enterprise event and farewell to the building, it is likely that another school will use the building whilst their school is being fixed under the governments Building Schools for the Future plan.

Went and had a look how the school is coming on. It is due to open September.
It does look fabulous when you get right up to it, :handclap: the photos don't do it justice. It is a fab building and unusual. It really does look like a huge plane. The views from 'the cockpit' over Liverpool and the Mersey are marvellous.
My son is actulal'y looking forward to going back to school ! :)
I'll take some better pics when the school opens.
The long 'bubble' in the foreground of the 2nd pic are the bike sheds.

My son was saying today that there can't be another school with such marvellous views. He was on the top floor in one of the study rooms this morning, and he says the views are fantastic, you can see right across the city, the two cathedrals, the Radio City tower, the Welsh mountains, etc. On the other side you can see across to Liverpool's ground.
