View Full Version : Copperfield Street, Dingle, Liverpool 8
I grew up on this street. All of the original area has been "pulled down" --and now (2009) there are "new" houses. Anyone else from this area? Anyone have, know where I can view any photos, information of Copperfield St area, Upper Park Street School, "Evans'" corner shop, etc?

If you still live in Liverpool, your best bet is to get along to the Liverpool Record Office, 4th floor Central Library, William Brown St. They have a large collection of old street and district photos. You might get lucky.

My great grandparents lived at 36 Copperfield St, according to the 1911 census. This was a few minutes walk from where we lived. I delivered papers in Copperfield St as a boy. The street was demolished around the very early 1980s.
John (Jack) Lennon who was John Lennon's grandfather, who he was named after, lived at 27 Copperfield Street, nearly opposite 36. My Great grandparents would have known the Lennons being close neighbours. John Lennon regularly visited Copperfield St as a boy and youth. John Lennon's Dad was born opposite my great grandparent in 1912, in Copperfield Street, and his grandfather, Jack, died there as well in 1921, I think his grandmother died there as well in the late 1940s. John Lennon's uncle lived there until the late 1970s for sure and maybe until it was demolished.
Jack Lennon spent some time in the USA when younger.

Maybe I was before you were there. Corner shop was owned by Mrs Evans. Son Graham and daughter Carol) There may have been another shop but that is the one we all used. I am in contact with someone from Copperfield St. (maybe someone posting as I keep giving him this site)

I remember it as Micawber, Copperfield and Nickelby. If you go into the Liverpool 8 part of the site they gave you on here you will get all the info. I will look in FR and see who is listed.
I remember the cousins Ann Rice and Margaret Curry (because of the curry and rice!) Was it Maurren Curry?

I love living in Manhattan. Been here in this apartment since the early 70's. Round the corner from Central Park. I should be out now. The sun is streaming in and it is a cold crisp day, just the day for a stroll down 5th or over to Strawberry Fields. If you look in INTRODUCTIONS I have a whole thread of photos
