Toxteth.net is a non-commercial website, shared with those who have an interest in the unique history of the Toxteth area of Liverpool. I use Toxteth to mean the original boundaries of the Royal and Ancient Park of Toxteth, delimited in 1207 by King John. The term has been much abused, it is not simply Liverpool 8 - the original boundary extended far wider - and most of the riots which made the area infamous, were not in Toxteth but in adjacent Canning. The idea to put data on the net developed from my interest in finding out about my ancestors in the area in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. After that it just grew. The site is young, it launched in October 2004 and so there is still a great deal of material to be added, (and a limited time to do this) but I hope it gives you a feel for the area in which your ancestors lived. If you have any information, or especially pictures, which you are willing to share please get in touch. The site will only expand further by pooling information.

It's a really good site. I've stumbled across it a few times when I've been rooting around for local history. There are lots of smashing pictures and info on it. The history of Otterspool and Dingle is very interesting. It's hard to believe how idylic and rural it once was. It was a forrested area with glens and streams.
I'm always hunting around for anything on Anfield, but I find very little about the area.

It's in the Toxteth.net web-site Max. There are some very interesting old pics. You should see the lovely mansions that used to be in the Dingle.
If you have a root around the site you will find them.
.... go into the site, click on 'places' in the left hand menu, then click into 'Dingle estates' (near the bottom of the list on the right side) you will see some of the old buildings in there.
