Learning from Disaster: New Orleans After Katrina

Description:

After the floodwaters in New Orleans receded, universal urban challenges were exposed. Current post-recovery activity reflects the conflicts and choices facing every city today.

Join us for an evening with international urban critic Roberta Brandes Gratz to reflect on her work in the US and its implications for regeneration here in England`s Northwest.


Speakers:

Roberta is an award-winning journalist and urban critic, and author of The Living City: Thinking Small in a Big Way and Cities: Back from the Edge: New Life for Downtown. A former reporter for the New York Post, Roberta Brandes Gratz has also written for The Wall Street Journal, New York Newsday, The Nation, The New York Times Magazine, and other publications.

Roberta has worked for The Rockefeller Foundation in Eastern Europe and has experience of urban issues in numerous countries. Roberta has visited Liverpool for several conferences and seminars and contributed to a Core Cities Conference in Sheffied, before which she made a fact-finding visit to each of the eight cities.
