The start of the christmas shopping season begins,Selfridges decorations are a little understated; personally ,I preferred the mannequins in the posh shop window

Changed a lot since I left there in 1971 to move to Sheffield and then Oz Brian. My dad reckons he gets lost around the city now and he's lived there all his life, 84 years.

Went Christmas shopping with sue today, thought you might like to see a bit of Brum, the first picture is of Selfridges ,a weird and wonderful building,it looks like it came from outer space. The second picture show the St of St Martins in the Bukk Ring and it looks like Selfridges is sneaking up on it .the Birmingham market ,now a tree lined esplanade ,is not a characterful as the old one, thats progress, here is a wonderful display of the choicest meats.......continued

Another shot of the fresh produce in the market and then out to the Queensway where we can see the chinese pagoda in front of the Radisson hotel.Walk up the hill of Suffolk Street and you come to Birminghams classic Palladian town hall, look to the right and you can see the Council House ,now surrounded by the German christmas market. The distant bell tower is that of the Municipal museum ,and look among those shoppers, did you ever see such wonderfully coloured hair............continued

Old Admiral Nelson has seen some mighty changes in this old town, the mad ranting of this evangelist goes unheeded as the shoppers go hunting for the bargains. Here we see another aspect of the "Thing" and there we can reflections of some other of Brums great buildings.Shoppings done now ,lets go home!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this years lot of decorations is something else,Birmingham seems to be keeping everything so low key that it is boring. The middle picture showing the reflection on the glass ceiling is more colourful. how I long for the colourful days of yesteryear when Lord Street was aglow with festive lights and Clayton Square had its huge tree.
get the pictures out folks and give us a re-run,
BrianD
