It's the flour mill on Mill Rd. The site is still used today as a flour mill. In the photo you can see the mill tower. The church to the right , also on Mill Rd, is St Cleopas

[Waterways]

The church with the spire in the background is St Johns on Park Rd/Park St. Now demolished. The church to the left of the mill is St Gabriels on Beaufort St, which is still there. The chimney stack to the left is the Old Mersey Forge which was closed down by then (1898). The disused stack was there until the 1960s. The site was never fully re-used, still pretty vacant today.

The houses in the foreground were built on the Miller Fields. What looks like a road at the side of the Mersey Forge chimney leading to St Gabriels, is just dirt and was not a road. I think it is still that way today. I never knew why it was never made into a road, it was clear it was designed that way. This waste land was referred to as the "Miller Fields". My mother told me people would have picnics on it in summer, desperate for any open green space.

To the right of the picture half way up, a construction can be seen. It is the steel frame of the Mill St/Harlow St tenements.

[Waterways]

The view today from a different angle. The mill is still there although with modern buildings. St Gabriels Church is still there. The "Miller Fields" was never made a road and is now a path and can be seen. Lavrock Bank chimney was to the right just off picture. It was blow up in 1971.

The Mersey Forge had all the site between the three gas holders. The open land between the lowered gas holder, bottom right, and the houses has been vacant for 110 years.

The in-filled Harrington and Toxteth Docks can be seen bottom left. The dock sheds are still intact

Brunswick station is in the foreground and the Northern Line can be seen entering the tunnel at Grafton St.

The Cheshire Lines Brunswick Goods terminal was where the roundabout is, left. between Park St and Northumberland St. The trains entered from the Northern Line and under Park St. The new bricks can be seen where the bridge has been filled in. The lines have been ripped up. The map below shows the good terminal, arrowed.

This is also the location of the southern Liverpool passenger terminal, from 1864 to 1874, when Central Station was built. The passenger building is below. It was together with the Brunswick Goods Terminal demolished in 1975.

Southern Liverpool Passenger terminal, 1864 to 1874. Sefton St/Northumberland St. The large goods terminal building has been built around the original passenger terminal.
