I looked at your picture of that beautiful queen Quincy and was filled with envy. Here I am,sitting at my desk in an office on a busy Birmingham ring road;the sound of non-stop traffic filling my ears, outside the window there is the Gala Bingo and the Jaguar factory, and there ,on my p.c. screen, are the rollers crashing ashore on Crosby beach as that great Cunarder cruises by. Thanks for sharing that pic,I was back there ,even if only for a moment.

Speke Hall, Liverpool. This superb building belongs to the National Trust and is featured on the front cover of their 2008 visitors' guide. It's well worth a visit if you've not been before.

The narrow boat Meander at the end of the canal
The canal was filled in at its most extreme. Quite a bit of canal and a basin were filled in. The canal at one time nearly hit Princes Dock.
There was a plan to extend the canal from this location, along the Strand behind the Liver Buildings and into Canning Dock.
I think this may have been a better route rather than the current route in front of the Liver. Then the Princes, Princes half-Tide Docks could have been left deep water docks (not made shallow for) and deep water historic ships berthed in these docks.
A better idea was to have partially excavated the Old Dock (Steers Dock) - L1 is now on it. Have the Leeds/Liverpool canal enter the Old Dock and then onto the Canning Dock via the original Old Dock entrance. Then canal boats would have to enter the Old Dock using locks, surrounded by a shopping Centre. That would be much more atmospheric and re0-earthing history too, as the Old Dock was the world's first enclosed commercial dock.

Scotch Piper Inn, Lydiate. Reputedly the oldest pub in the old county of Lancashire
Great pics Taffy and GD.
The Scotch piper is very small too, half a dozen of us filled the bar, the bogs are outside across the car park too. Lydiate Hall Farm is just along the road, a great little craft shop and cafe amongst the peacocks.

Madryn St, Princes Park, Liverpool. The only unboarded up house is number 9 where Ringo Starr lived for a short time. I wonder whether with the current slump in the housing market whether these houses will stay like this for a long time.

There hasn't been anything posted for the last 4 days on this thread so I'm taking advantage of that and posting 3 related photographs taken this evening, hope no-one minds.
They are of the beam of light that is linking the two Cathedrals along Hope Street in Liverpool at the moment. The last photo just shows a green dot where the beam hits the centre of the tower on the Metropolitan Cathedral. The other two are taken from the steps and show the light beaming back and forth with the Anglican Cathedral.
I love the symbolism of the light showing unity between the faiths :)

Where's all the water gone I hear the birds ask. Sefton Park is undergoing a major refurbishment at the moment including draining the lake to repair the periphery walls.

Nice photo taffy, what a shame they've drained the lake. Last Halloween it looked beautiful with lanterns floating on it.
